Pours black in color with a surprisingly tall tan head. Smells strong of booze, roasted malt, char, and even a bit of ash. There is some dark chocolate and coffee, but they’re not as prominent as I would like. The flavor is more of the same. A bit of a coffee grounds flavor as well as some bitter dark chocolate, licorice, and roasted malt. The flavor is a bit too astringent for my liking. Medium body and carbonation.

Bottle… Pours pitch black with a mid-sized, creamy, beige head. Great retention. The bouquet is milky chocolaty and nutty – big cocoa, toasted nuts and light vanilla. Medium to full-bodied with a buttery mouthfeel and subdued carbonation. The flavor presents sweetened espresso and dark cocoa. Very roasty and burnt. Finishes bittersweet and carbonaceous. Bottle courtesy of landhoney!

Tap at Blind Tiger. Dark black beer with a thin tan head. Aroma is quite roasty with a prominent salty character. Chewy and quite earthy. There is a hint of soft maple flavour but the aroma doesn’t really show it at all. Intensely roasty and a little bit of soy. Very sticky and very roasty and incredibly chewy. There was a light sweetness especially as it warms.
