3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 mcberko (4075) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JAN 8, 2013
500mL bottle, sent from adamjackson (thanks a lot, Adam), pours a hazy dark copper with a miniscule off-white head. Aroma of maple syrup galore, brown sugar and caramel, though the maple is most pronounced. Flavour is intensely sweet, with treacle toffee, maple, caramel and brown sugar. Pretty cloyingly sweet, with a super soft carbonation (almost totally flat) and high viscosity. Gets a bit much to drink, but it’s surely complex and an enjoyment to sip.

2011. this is a very interesting beer. I had the barrel aged version BEFORE opening this one and I didn’t like that beer as much. However, having both now, it’s clear this is the winner in my book. The maple sweetness is far more pronounced and easy to fall in love with. Still a sipper of a beer. Smells like brown sugar, caramel and ..of course, maple. Only downfall is it’s too sweet so it’s a bottle worth sharing with friends.

SMpled at an ezbls tastong. This was such a sweet beer. Almost cloying. Maple notes, too. Some malt but sweetness and maple overwhelm. This would be good over pancakes!
3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 PhillyCraft (1993) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - SEP 8, 2012
Bottle, with Frank and Bill, pours a reddish brown, tons of barleywine notes, thin bodied, too sweet, watered down whiskey, boozey, maple syrup, sweet malts, vanilla dark fruits, chuck e cheese pizza finish. Maybe too fresh and a lil weird. Not really digging this one. More double sunshine please this one was not what I hoped for.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Damico (1922) - Royersford, Pennsylvania, USA - SEP 2, 2012
Pours darker somewhat clear amber with a smaller off white head. The aroma brings sweet boozy maple notes, almost oak barrel. The flavor of alcohol is there for sure with some sweet sticky malts, almost like a maple barleywine.
3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 AirForceHops (1862) - Epping, New Hampshire, USA - JUL 10, 2012
Bottle number 99 shared from Adam Jackson’s cellar. Thanks for the opportunity bud!
Had about 10 oz. in a tulip glass. Deep amber pour with no head what so ever. Nose is mostly Maple syrup with a very subtle hint of Belgian yeast. Flavor is sweet but NOT so much that it becomes sicking. What really caught me off guard was the bitterness in the finish. The hops or perhaps spice is what helps balance out the sweetness. Medium body is leaning on the full side.
This beer may really improve with age. I understand the ingredients and time the brewer used to make this beer. I realized a lot of the cost is labor and time taking care of the brew. The big question for me is: “Would I spend $30.00 (U.S. )for this and have to drive to Vermont?” Oh, and stand in line for 20 or 30 minutes. The answer is… no. It’s a very tasty brew and may cellar quite well… but it’s a one and done for me.

On draft pour. Maple overwhelms all other flavored. Very nice. Full bodied and complex. Maple does great.
3.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 Reynolds314 (1480) - Connecticut, USA - MAR 25, 2012
Ive been wanting to try this one for a while. I had both the 2009 and 2011 on draft at the anniversary party. They were similar but still different enough. This rating is for the 2011 which I preferred. Aroma was maple sugar candy, nutty biscuity malt light spicy vanilla? Taste was mostly maple all over the palate with subdued malts. There was definitely medium to heavy sweetness but not cloyingly so. Nice unique beer.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 Ernesto987 (2378) - Connecticut, USA - MAR 24, 2012
Had both 2009 and 2011 on tap at anniversary party. The 3011 is super maplely. Like maple flavored hard candy. The age did this well, flavor better integrated
