COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
With this beer, I raise a toast to an original brewing pioneer, Greg Noonan. Brewed with the finest pale malt, toasted barely, toasted rye, un-bittered black & wheat malts, along with layers of dank earthey hops. I hope you enjoy this dark, hoppy delight! -Sean

Bottle. Pours black with creme colored head that lingers. Mellow hop aroma over mild carbonation. Coffee and dark chocolate flavors compliment complex hop resin flavors in perfect balance. Outstanding ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Enjoyed at the Three Penny Taproom. A great example and tribute to Greg Noonan, the originator of the Black IPA "style" of beer... good one.

Bottle. Black pour, big roast, diminishing bitterness. Should of cracked this earlier. Roast forward black IPA. Green hops underneath heavier roasted malts. Nice black ipa

Tap at Prohibition Pig, 07/26/2013. Dark brown pour, light tan head fades to a haze on the surface, sticky lacing. Aroma is pulpy grapefruit and melon, mild pine notes, sweet tangerine, lighter layer of dark roasted malts behind fresh hoppy goodness. Taste is dark piney hops, intense bitterness when combined with cocoa, espresso, heavy roast. Medium body, dry finish. Really tasty, good hoppy kick and roast character, though perhaps a bit unbalanced toward the hops.

Just an awesome example of a black ipa. Big hoppy up front with a roasted finish. Delicious!

22oz bomber thanks to Onebigtymer11. Pours a deep dark brown/black color with a thick creamy tan head. Aroma is musty, wood, earth, rubber, and roasted malt. Taste is is burnt wood, ash, roasted malt, slight citrus, with earthy dank hop bitterness.

Bouteille 22 oz. Nez tres discret, aqueux, sur des effluves de houblon. Corps moyen, bouche de grains grilles bien balancee par l’amertume. Finale seche avec une sensation assechante. Bonne sans etre spectaculaire.

Really good black ipa, malty, hoppy, touch or rye. Medium body. No bitterness. Very sweet on the aroma but not on the taste.

In short: A highly roasted piney/wooden Black IPA. Very good session beer.
How: Tap at Prohibition Pig, Waterbury VT
The look: Clear black-burgundy body topped by a very small beige head.
In long: Nose is very roasted (burnt toasts) with bright hopping that is piney and slightly citrusy. This is not one of those highly aromatic Black IPA totally dominated by the hops, there is a lot of roast coming through in the aroma. Taste is toasted almonds, oily barley, charred cereals, burnt toasts, brownies, hard toffee candies, solid wooden/piney hopping with citrusy undertones. Finish is quite dry. This is a well balanced Black IPA, not the typical aromatic hop bomb I’ve come to expect from Lawson. A true session Black IPA, certainly not original but nonetheless a superior take on the style. Another good beer from Lawson’s, and it has never happened to me, not even once, that I drained poured a hoppy Lawson’s beer without being sexually assaulted by a donkey immediately after.

Bottle shared by a kind soul at the last Tampa Crew Tasting. Pours a hazy brown with an off-white head. Nose is roast, toasted malts, cocoa, coffee, and some citrusy hop bite. Flavor is similar with roast, toast, malt, cocoa, coffee, and some citrusy hops. Medium in body and nice overall.
