Pours black with a small tan head that lasts throughout. Aroma purely consists of roasted malt; coffee, dark chocolate and nuts. Tastes are more of the same. Silky body with a bitter chocolaty finish. A very nice, elegant beer. I’ve come to learn that dark beers are Lazy Magnolia’s specialty.

Light tan foam is pretty thick atop the black body. Aroma is coffee and roasted malt. Medium bodied. Chocolate, coffee, and toffee flavors are blended well and finish is bittersweet.

Tallahassee, Fl. - ABC Fine Wine & Spirits - Bull Run - 12 oz bottle. Deep, dark purplish-black pour with a thin, but omnipresent khaki-colored head that clings to the edge of the glass. Aroma has some unsweetened chocolate bittersweet notes, a touch of creosote. Flavor is bold and flavorful with some solid bittersweet chocolate notes, just a hint of licorice, some espresso notes. Nice, thick mouthfeel, Nicely done.

Appearance: dark brown into a snifter, half a finger of dense khaki head, minimal lacing. Aroma: pretty typical stout nose, with chocolate, dark caramel malts, some coffee. Taste: semi-sweet dark chocolate, general roast, some coffee, caramel, and vanilla. Finish: slightly sweet, with a hint of licorice and coffee and vanilla. Notes: Decent enough. Balanced flavors, good palate. Not a huge imperial stout, but tasty. Bottle from Total Wine, McLean, VA.

Slightly sweet, roasted, nutty aroma with some creosote. Nice label, standard 12oz longneck, oily pour, thin clingy khaki foam. Light cocoa just as it crosses the lips, coffee, some earthiness, not terribly fruity but there’s some raisinette candy to this. ABV is well played, you can only really tell the gravity after it becomes chummy with you. This is a nicely sipping beer, and I enjoyed it. ABC, Bull Run.

12 oz 2013 bottle into a Belgian snifter. Pours an effervescent dark brown, looking black in the glass, with an oversized head, Very good retention but limited lacing. S: Dark roasted grains, a little booze and hints of coffee and toffee. Seems a bit too sweet and, perhaps, contaminated. Taste: largely follows the nose, but better, being less boozy and having more smoke and char, and a stronger dark roasted grain component. Feel: Medium bodied; medium+ carbonation; some warming O: disappointing

Just an earthy, rich, pecan, hickory, black coffee tasting stout. A little acidic and a little like caramel. I get it.

Looks alike a stout -- dark with a tan head. Tastes like a stout -- chocolate over roasted coffee. Not bad but forgettable in the crowded stout landscape.
