Jefferson Stout, Lazy Magnoliaís original Sweet Potato Cream Stout, is Lazy Magnoliaís version of the ideal Southern-Style Stout. Jefferson Stout is brewed with sweet potatoes and lactose (milk sugar). The sweet potatoes provide the background to an impressive taste with added notes of roasted chocolate, coffee and caramel flavors.

Near black pour with a nice khaki head. Aroma is dark chocolate and coffee. Taste is the same with some caramel sweetness. Really nice flavor overall, sweet potato doesnít contribute much. Easy to drink.

Lazy Magnoliaís sweet potato-infused Jeff Stout certainly was an appropriately southern beer to get my first MS rating. Lazy Magnolia uses a light touch with the sweet potato, and it works nicely here. Thereís just a hint of earthy, starchy potato. It blends nicely with the regular Sweet Stout notes of cream, buttery chocolate, and dessert coffee. Smooth, rich mouthfeel that seems much fuller than the 4.65% ABV would have you expect. Nice to meet ya, Lazy Magnolia.

Deep dark brown body. Aromas of malt, coffee and chocolate. Nice flavor of malt, coffee and chocolate as well. The finish was a little lighter than most, but still had a decent creaminess.

Bottle. A- Chocolate syrup, milk, subtle coffee, roasty. A- Black color, black liquid, brown head. T- Chocolate syrup, milky, sweet, slightly roasty, slightly dry, subtle coffee bitterness. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, balanced finish. O- Wanted this mostly for the novelty of being brewed with sweet potatoes. Canít say that I really got much sweet potato. It definitely added to the sweetness but didnít have a pronounced flavor. It was good though. I expected it to be a weird novelty beer and in turn it was actually very tasty.

Bottle, shared by me... in the library... just now.
Pours basically black with a big tan head and some nice lacing on the glass.

The aroma is lightly roasty and mildly sweet. It does smell like sweet potatoes and I canít get upset about that. Itís got some mild molasses and coffee in there, fine enough.

The flavor is very very molasses like with a roasty bitterness and a medium level of sweetness. The sweet potatoes are noticeable but less so than they are in the aroma. Itís got some baking cocoa, some espresso, and a light bit of caramel.

Pours a jet black with a thin white head. Aroma is lactose, chocolate, roast, burnt sugar, and a metallic note. Flavor is chocolate and roast, with the lactose turning into some vegetal notes. Has a light body. Meh.

Dark pour. At best, only hints of notes of roasted chocolate, coffee and caramel flavors. Dull finish as well. Needs something to jump out.

Dark beer out of the bottle. There is very little carbonation in this bottle. I got some brown bubbles when I poured but no head and not much action on the tongue. Molasses, burnt grain and buttered toast in the nose. Lots of lactic sweetness with burnt chocolate, toast, sweetened coffee and some grassy hops in the finish. Okay novelty stout.

12 ounce bottle poured into a snifter. The beer is a darker brown with a fizzy head of khaki foam that fizzles down to a ring around the edge of the glass. The aroma has a lot of roast character to it with moderate vanilla bean notes. The taste lends some zippy sweetness akin to marshmallow and vanilla. The sweet potato does not really come through for me. Lighter to medium in body and higher in carbonation. Slick, prickly mouthfeel.

Black with thin, light-brown head. Aroma/Flavor: Caramel sweet potato, cocoa, grass. Somewhat thin though for my ideal version of the style. Body is medium and creamy with moderate carbonation. Overall, pretty good, a unique concept that was well executed, but needs more of the deliciousness of sweet stouts at their best.

Excellent coffee stout. Great dessert beer for the end of the day. Enjoyed it at Hal & Malís in Jackson, MS while listening to some Blues. Heaven.
