COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Jefferson Stout, Lazy Magnolia’s original Sweet Potato Cream Stout, is Lazy Magnolia’s version of the ideal Southern-Style Stout. Jefferson Stout is brewed with sweet potatoes and lactose (milk sugar). The sweet potatoes provide the background to an impressive taste with added notes of roasted chocolate, coffee and caramel flavors.

UPDATED: SEP 2, 2013 Pours a dark, dark brown with a one finger light brown head that very quickly fades away. Nose of licorice, roasted malt. The taste starts out with some coffee notes and typical stout roasted malts, but then becomes almost sour - my guess is that is the influence of the sweet potato. Did not like it - less enjoyable the 2nd time. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Black body with subtle mahogany highlights beneath a frothy, evenly textured, khaki head fading back to a thin, incomplete ring and very minimal lace

Pleasant aromas and flavors with mild richness focused on vanilla and chocolatey roots with dark caramel and subtle treacle and smoke opening to a layer of coffee offering a compliment to the earthy potato tones, just a hint of clear sweet potato notes as this one builds up through the delicately coating, mildly spritzy, softly drying, light-plus body offering minimal roasty-sweet residuals

12oz bottled on 11/24/14, branded as alias Jeff Stout, served at 45° into 14.7oz Zwiesel Cognac snifter

From a bottle. Pours very dark brown with a fizzy tan head. Tastes sweet, like light pecans, starchy potatoes, light chocolate, toasted malt, creamy. Light body and low carbonation. Light starchy sweet potato aroma, with some chocolate, caramel, and toasted malt.

Bottle. Pours deep, dark brown with creamy tan head. Aroma is lightly roasted malts, sweet potatoes, light earthiness, some chocolate, and faint lactose. Flavor is dry and bland with just some roast, chocolate, and very sweetness. Light/medium body and medium carbonation.

Bottle in fl. Very sweet aroma. No resemblance to stout. Hard to place despite familiar taste. Caramel galore. Just not very good

The strangest beer I've ever tasted. Oddly lacking in any noticeable aftertaste

This beer pours a thick black color with a medium tan head that fades quickly to a ring atop the liquid. The aroma blends a strong vegetal sweet potato scent with undercurrents of cream and roasted malts. The taste is initially mildly umami, but that quickly subsides to a heavy sourness, slight malt bitterness, and mild sweetness; however, the aftertaste returns to a strong roastiness. The palate fuses a medium body, slick texture, and a soft carbonation.

Bottle: The aroma consists of moderate chocolate, caramel, roasted nuts, light coffee, and a hint of dark fruits. It pours a dark brown with no transparency and a one finger light brown head that quickly fades to a thick film. The flavor starts with a quick dose of chocolate and caramel. There is some moderate sour fruits in the middle. The finish has light-moderate coffee, light roasted nuts, and dusty flavors. It’s medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Overall, the sourness is clearly not supposed to be here and really hurts my rating.

Bottle->nonic. Deep brown with thick creamy tan head. A: chocolate and roasted malt, lactose. T: bitter cocoa, malt, metallic notes. An odd note of what presumably is sweet potato. Thin. Not particularly good.

Keg @ Boylan Heights. Deep brown with a small tan head. Nose is pretty creamy and sweet. Hazelnut coffee creamer. Brown sugar. Chocolate syrup. Taste is similar. Slightly thin nutty chocolate water. Nutella and brown sugar. Light body, creamy mouthfeel. Sort of boring.

Refrigerated 12 oz. brown bottle, compliments of shrubber85, poured into a shaker. Black with small dark brown highlights and medium/small light brown head. Aroma is light lactose, medium body, medium carbonation, slightly creamy texture, and good medium-bubble lacing. Taste is roasted malt, some sweet potato, and hints of lactose. Not overly sweet, pretty good, shrubber85 with a state tick.
