COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Deep South Pale Ale is Lazy Magnolia’s Pale Ale, a crisp and clean beer with the perfect balance of hops and malt. Its body and clean finish are ideally suited for all seasons, and the brew is moderately hopped for a great aroma and impressive finish. Deep South Pale Ale doesn’t fit into any category of Pale Ale, it’s a style we made up!

The Story
Deep South Pale Ale, formerly know as Reb Ale, was Lazy Magnolia’s first recipe designed to accommodate one, specific location. It was brewed in recognition of the overwhelming support of the Oxford, Mississippi market, home to the University of Mississippi. Oxford is a special place, deeply rooted in history and a vibrant center for the arts and Southern culture. Because of our consistent growth into new distribution areas, we had to change the name to accommodate our expanding. The label may not say Reb Ale anymore, however, we rebelled against style standards to come up with our own Deep South Pale Ale to make a beer for the rebel in all of us.

12oz bottle. Rating #63. Light golden appearance with a pretty aggressive fluffy white head that leaves a decent bit of lacing as it goes down. Picking up a bit of lemony citrus along with the wheat which seems to give it a slight doughy aroma, not too bad. Light bitterness along with more lemon they gives it an acidicness that can be felt going down the back of the throat. Pretty good little beer, it would be nice sitting outside while watch the planes takeoff and land across the street. (1594)

Appearance: orange and golds clear as morning sunrise. Tufts of amber along the side mingle with a soft pithy head which fades into a blotchy blanket. Swirls with loose bubbly lace and a bit more head, but overall no major change.
Nose: peaches, apricots with an overall freshly picked fruit essence, first with the fleshy juicy meats then the skins for pleasant bitterness. Grass in the back along with hay stalks and straw. A bit refreshing but simple. Tangerine wafts on by.
Palate: clean and sweet with a subtle lingering bitterness in the back of my throat. Grassy and earthy in the finish; green. Peach and nectarine juicy nectars in the front; sticky lips. Peach skins mingle with mild bitterness which leads into the finish.
Final Thoughts: overall not too shabby. A good session quaffer with just enough fruity sweetness and just enough dry bitterness to keep these tastebuds happy.

Reddish orange, with a thin ring of foam. Nice aroma of citrus - I’m gonna say grapefruit. Flavor is fairly hop forward, as well. Some citrus, some pine, with some caramel in the background. Perhaps a little bit of a stale note as it warms. This is the type of beer that is good right after work when you just want something to take the edge off the day and not really have to think about too much.

Bottle. Pours out a huge head, settles after a bit. A golden color. A sweet caramel and yeasty nose with some light fruity hops. The flavor is bitter odd hop flavors, some dry malts, something is off here, almost like a sweet bready Belgian yeast strain gone wrong, something akin to dirtiness. Very bitter and odd. Perhaps bottling issues, I’ll re-rate it again someday.

The aroma is very balanced with malt and hops with just a touch of yeast and adjuncts. The appearance is golden amber with a thin head and only a few bubbles. The taste is like the aroma. The palate is smooth. Overall this is a very drinkable beer but somewhat forgettable.

8/6/10. Big thanks to fsuscott for this brew! Cloudy orange pour with a big fluffy off-white head with sediment on top. Light, mild aroma with hints of soap and citrus. The flavor is rather bitter, but not loaded with fresh hop flavor, with a hint of metal... eh.

Bottled, thanks Cletus! Cloudy pale amber, rich head. Dusty fruity nose. Sweetish with medium body and clean, rounded mouthfeel. Salty fnish with good bitterness. Not the most flavourful beer ever, but a nicely drinkable one.
