COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Deep South Pale Ale is Lazy Magnolia’s Pale Ale, a crisp and clean beer with the perfect balance of hops and malt. Its body and clean finish are ideally suited for all seasons, and the brew is moderately hopped for a great aroma and impressive finish. Deep South Pale Ale doesn’t fit into any category of Pale Ale, it’s a style we made up!

The Story
Deep South Pale Ale, formerly know as Reb Ale, was Lazy Magnolia’s first recipe designed to accommodate one, specific location. It was brewed in recognition of the overwhelming support of the Oxford, Mississippi market, home to the University of Mississippi. Oxford is a special place, deeply rooted in history and a vibrant center for the arts and Southern culture. Because of our consistent growth into new distribution areas, we had to change the name to accommodate our expanding. The label may not say Reb Ale anymore, however, we rebelled against style standards to come up with our own Deep South Pale Ale to make a beer for the rebel in all of us.

From bottle, as Deep South Pale Ale. Decent hoppy aroma with a little skunk and caramel. Rich amber clear with off-white foamy lacing head. Medium body with medium carbonation. Starts dry with medium hop bitterness, grainy malt notes and an astringent oxidized bitter quality. Light bit of soap. Finish is medium bitter with lasting astringent bitter after.

Bottle, labeled as Deep South Pale Ale. Pours golden-amber with a massive head of bright white foam. Not much of an aroma. This drinks with a unique character ... this is a fairly "normal," well made craft ale ... but there’s almost a pumpkin-y spiciness lingering in the background ... can’t quite place it. I’d drink more. (#5035, 5/25/2013)

Bottle poured into a small plastic cup in my hotel room. Nice pale amber with a persistent white head. Aroma is lightly grassy and citrusy, but also with a good deal of cereal and cardboard. Taste is assertively malty with just a slight hop bite. Easy drinking, but not great.

a nice and fruity brew with sugary and syrupy flavors of peach and a hint of apricot. the beer has more than enough malt and bitter hop profile in grapefruit to keep it nice and beery. frothy and complex i found this to be a perfectly charming pale ale strong enough to be a good ipa. exactly what one who knows would hope for in a Southern brew.
