COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Southern Pecan Nut Brown Ale is the first beer in the world, to our knowledge, made with whole roasted pecans. The pecans are used just like grain and provide a nutty characteristic and a delightful depth to the flavor profile. This beer is very lightly hopped to allow the malty, caramel, and nutty flavors shine through. The color is dark mahogany. Southern Pecan won a Bronze Medal in the 2006 World Beer Cup in the Specialty Beer category.

Rich copper colored brew with a thin, white head. Aroma is distinctly of fresh pecans. Tastes of biscuit, earthy notes, and some funky pecans. Funky as in a bit too artificial. Sweet, nutty finish. Not bad, easy drinking, but not great either.

Do I really need to leave a comment just to rate this beer? This is annoying. Do I have enough characters yet?

Pours medium dark brown, large tan head. Chocolate malt aroma. Nutty hints. Taste is a nice not overwhelming sweetness with a bit of offsetting hops. Nice smooth mouthfeel.

On tap @ Flying Saucer - Nashville. This is like the easiest possible Mississippi rating to get, but somehow I haven’t tried it yet. Light brown in color with a finger of khaki foam. Sweet caramel, maple, and toasted nuts. A fair bit of caramel, too. Maybe a hint of spices. A bit more carbonation and lighter body than I might like for this type of beer...but at least it’s not like drinking syrup.

Brown pour. Hints of spice and pecan in both the aroma and flavor. A little lighter in feel than I expected.

It’s not awful, but it’s not very good. Pours a hazy, golden brown with an average head. The aroma is malt and molasses and a little brown sugar. The flavor is slightly sweet and synthetic tasting. No pecans on the aroma or flavor, really. Nothing special. Not absolutely awful. But not something I’ll have again.
