COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Southern Pecan Nut Brown Ale is the first beer in the world, to our knowledge, made with whole roasted pecans. The pecans are used just like grain and provide a nutty characteristic and a delightful depth to the flavor profile. This beer is very lightly hopped to allow the malty, caramel, and nutty flavors shine through. The color is dark mahogany. Southern Pecan won a Bronze Medal in the 2006 World Beer Cup in the Specialty Beer category.

I was really excited by the whole pecan-thing with this beer, and I really wanted it to be great. It turned out to be mostly a disappointing. More Amber-tasting than Brown I though. Maybe some nuttiness (from powerful name suggestion?), but I didn’t get a whole lot of the pecan. Too bad.

Bottle. Pours brown with a small tan head. Aroma of malt. Light body with a light malt sweetness and a light toasted nut finish. Very light and not much pecan flavor, disappointing.

12oz bottle in a tulip. Pours brownish with a small, beige head. Aroma of light caramel and nutty malts plus some floral hops. Flavor the same. Average texture. Not bad but nothing stands out.

P: Crystal clear brown copper body with a creamy taupe head that fizzles to a nice creamy layer. S: Aroma is similar to candied roasted pecans with earthy aromatic hops to balance out the sweetness. Very balanced and clean nose. T/M: Roasted pecans, bitter toffee apples, cinnamon, brown sugar, aromatic hops with syrup and coffee lurking in the background. Faint smoke in the mix. Medium body with crisp carbonation. O: A fantastically balanced brown ale. There is nothing overpowering or understated it all works together. I’ve been waiting to try a Lazy Magnolia offering and I’m impressed. Cheers!

355m bottle thanks to Lewis. Pours a dark honey colour with a decent white head. The nose is honey and eventually the nuttiness comes through. The taste has pecan pie. The palate is light to medium in body and as expected the finish is a little on the sweet side. A decent example of a brown ale but not excited enough to want another, should it be available.

Draft at Fermentation. Clear amber pour with almost no head. Nut, sweet toasted bread and caramel maltiness on the nose. Not really picking of pecan specifically. Slightly sweet, nutty flavor with a dryish finish. Not terrible.

Never having tasted a pecan beer, I thought that Lazy Magnolia totally nailed that taste that you would expect from one. It’s substantial. The pecan is subtle yet rounds out the beer, making it full but not overwhelming. Still, the taste is deep and very pleasant.

Beautiful dark amber color with a thin head (dissipates in a matter of seconds), with a smell of wheat barley (minimal to no pecan smell). Flavor reminded me a lot of Sam Adams Boston Lager with a hint of nuttiness (but barely). I wouldn't exactly call this an ale because it tasted so much like a lager. An overall good and safe beer to have. However, I was expecting more than safe, but rather an unusual hint of pecan since I haven't had pecan-brewed beer before. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Translucent light brown body, medium dense cream head. Toasty nose, bready with fresh dough and toasted pecans; woody acidity. Body light and toasty and nutty. Biting. Refreshing with nice creamy pecan notes.
