COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Southern Pecan Nut Brown Ale is the first beer in the world, to our knowledge, made with whole roasted pecans. The pecans are used just like grain and provide a nutty characteristic and a delightful depth to the flavor profile. This beer is very lightly hopped to allow the malty, caramel, and nutty flavors shine through. The color is dark mahogany. Southern Pecan won a Bronze Medal in the 2006 World Beer Cup in the Specialty Beer category.

The aroma is slightly sweet. Malts? No nuttiness noted. A clear dark amber pour with a one finger tan head which quickly disisapates. No lacing. The taste is a nice surprise after the underwhelming nose. Initially, some malty notes followed by a roasted nuts flavor, followed by a stronger pecan finish and a slightly grainy aftertaste. Nice. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Overall, a very drinkable beer.

APPEARANCE- medium broen in color (you may say pecan). Pretty light off-white head. NOSE- Slight malty notes. Not too much else to it. FLAVOR- smooth, touch of malty sweetness. I may taste a bit of a nuttiness if I try hard. NOTES- tastes a lot like a traditional (not hopppy) brown. This gets extra points for having no discernable hop in this hop crazy world. If they’re in there for bittering, it’s a perfectly small amount.

Was really disappointed overall with this beer. I picked up a single to try anticipating at least a hint of pecans as it touts being brewed with whole roasted pecans. It was like every other craft brew I have ever tried, with one bad twist-a bad aftertaste.

Dark brown color. Has a pleasant mild aroma. Wonderful combination of pecans, walnuts, caramel, vanilla, butter, malt, and oak char.It has a hint of sweetness but its not over powering. Finishes clean and smooth. This was a wonderful beer, easy to drink but full of flavor.

Malty brew that is generally low on aromas and flavors. Fair bit of body that turns thin and watery on the finish. Unsatisfying.

From a bottle kindly provided by Cunningham, shared with other Norwegian ratebeerians (see below). A filmy layer on the top of a clear amber body. Modest smell of caramel and herbal hops. Similar taste of mild caramel, nuts, and herbal hops. Semi-sweet malt-fruity finish. Medium to thin bodied. Soft carbonated. Straightforward (Drammen 30.05.2015).

Clear copper body with a small, eggnog-coloured, long-lived head. Malty and very sweet aroma of wort, nuts and pale malts. Moderate aroma that follow the sweet aroma, with additional sweet caramel and sweet fruits. Mid-bodied and smooth on the palate. Moderate sweet taste with some bitterness in the finish. Almost ok-ish.
