COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Southern Pecan Nut Brown Ale is the first beer in the world, to our knowledge, made with whole roasted pecans. The pecans are used just like grain and provide a nutty characteristic and a delightful depth to the flavor profile. This beer is very lightly hopped to allow the malty, caramel, and nutty flavors shine through. The color is dark mahogany. Southern Pecan won a Bronze Medal in the 2006 World Beer Cup in the Specialty Beer category.

The aroma is slightly sweet. Malts? No nuttiness noted. A clear dark amber pour with a one finger tan head which quickly disisapates. No lacing. The taste is a nice surprise after the underwhelming nose. Initially, some malty notes followed by a roasted nuts flavor, followed by a stronger pecan finish and a slightly grainy aftertaste. Nice. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Overall, a very drinkable beer.

Draft. Cranberry-brown, dark yet very clear, with a cottony head of tan that recedes quickly. Aroma: subtle pecan and walnut, a little caramel, a dash of buttery vanilla. Mild caramel sweetness runs through the flavor, which is accented with very subtle nuttiness. Flavor is light and more like an amber ale than a brown. Medium-light body, mild CO2. Drinkable but a bit soft in flavor.

On tap at Cooter Brownís Tavern. This beer is very smooth compared to other nut ales there is no bitterness to it. It doesnít smell like pecans but you do get a taste of it on the back end. Very good!

This beer is smooth and easy to drink with subtle notes of pecan shells. I bought this beer at a local Specs store by chance and I have gone back to buy 3 six packs since.

From bottle, pours a clear dark brown with red hues, large beige head that stays around. Nose is yeast, brown sugar, nuts. Medium body, sweet, soft carbonation, slightly oily. Long pecan finish, with more brown sugar. Exactly what I expected, enjoyable, one of the better browns Iíve had.

(draft @ Huck Finnís Cafe - New Orleans, LA) Brown pour with a thick tan head. Nutty and sweet caramel aroma. Mild flavor of sweet malts and a light hint of pecans. Pretty nice but wouldíve been better with a bit more pecan flavor.

10 oz pour on draft at Beer Run. Clear amber with off-white head. Aromas of caramel, light maple, malt, pecans as it warms. Tastes of light toasty notes, malt, caramel. Medium-light body with a dry finish.

Aroma right off, to me, is something of an unknown. Malty and nutty. Thatís about all...Appearance is dark copper color. Pours a pretty thick tan head, not much lacing....Taste, this is the one youíre interested in, at least I am. Itís pretty good. Roasted pecan, maybe pecan shell, maybe that papery thing between the pecan halves. Either way, thereís some pecan in there. There is some maltiness. The taste is pretty good....Palate is pretty smooth, drinkable, but not sessionable. I canít really say why. I could drink a couple of these back to back, but not much more than that. Overall,itís good, not great. I would buy it again, but more for the "Hey, look what I found!!" to share with friends, than the qualities the beer brings.

UPDATED: MAR 25, 2015 Pours a clear copper color with a small white head. Smells of pecan, malt caramel and yeast, tastes nutty with malt and slight hops.
