Timber Beast is the first in Lazy Magnolia’s Back Porch Series. A spicy, full-bodied Imperial Rye Pale Ale balanced with a generous dose of Zythos hops. Retreat to the Back Porch and be a little Lazy. Big Cheers Y’all.

12oz bottle, shared by alexsdad06. Mildly hazy amber orange color. Thin off-white head. Good bits and short ropes of lace. Orange citrus hops, caramel malts. Nice spicy rye tingle. More malt forward, but a nice malt character to it. Moderate sweetness, light bitter, less than expected. Alcohol is pretty well hidden. Bigger body. Smooth, lighter carbonation, lightly crisp, with a more dry finish. An alright DIPA at this point, seems like it would have been much better very fresh. The rye component is still very enjoyable, though.

Bottle to snifter (shared by alexsdad06). Looks good; a fairly transparent orange with off-white lacing. Smells and tastes of big malt and bitter hops with some rye spice. Average on the palate. Solid beer, but a bit underwhelming for the style.

Appearance: a rich gold color, some amber hues, beer is clear, pours with a very big and very dense tan head, looks great, great head retention and lacing Aroma: hoppy, grass, pine, kind of faint Taste: grass, pine, earth, bitter, citrus, also creamy, very subtle and smooth malt backbone in the back ground Palate: creamy, high c02, leaves a bitter aftertaste, leaves mouth feeling wet Overall: very impressed with this beer, lots of hop flavors and a nice mouthfeel with the malt kind of staying behind the scenes, which is how I like my ipa's ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Tap at the source. Pours clear dark amber with a large, creamy off-white head, long retention with excellent lacing. Aroma is pine, earthy and citrus hops with spicy rye malt, peach and pear esters. Flavor is heavy hops and bitterness, sweet malt, fruity esters and a dry finish. Medium body and carbonation.

Bottle pour orange golden color. Nose spicy hop, floral and a hint of tropical fruit. Taste, decent bitter up front. Mid palate sweetness and a bitter finish. Not as spicy as expected for a rye, but decent drinking beer.

12 oz bottle from Growlers. Pours a hazy orange amber color with a large fluffy off white head. The aroma and flavor have quite a bit of sweet caramel, sharp orange citrus, hihints of spicy rye with a bigger bite to the finish. This is more malt forward and could pass as an American barley wine. Pretty tasty and a surprise treat at the beach.

Bottle:   Amberish, dirty yet fiery, large sudsy tannish head, nice lacing.   Big sweet citrusy nose, candied citrus peel, citrus zest, and some sweet candied fruitiness.   Oh man, smells delish!   Smooth maltiness up front, bitter yet somewhat sweet, citrusy, bitter, but not over the top.   Slight earthy background, but minor.   This one is too easy to drink.   Bitterness isn’t overwelming, nice big citrus background, sweet, candyish, and full of tropical fruitiness.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate to full.   Clean finish, moderate bitterness, pithy, citrus zest, but also candyish.   Has a lingering earthiness that I could do without, but otherwise this is rather respectable.   9% ABV?   Dranks pretty good!
