Bottle, thanks to Iguenard, 02/04/2012. Pours dark brown, near black, with thin half-finger white head that dies down, leaving splotchy lacing and hazy surface. Aroma of butterscotch toffee, subtle tartness, sweet caramel and vanilla, light presence of darker malts, dark berries, lovely oak finish. Taste is not as complex as the nose, but rich with buttery caramel and toffee, dark bread malts, becoming slightly fruity with warmth, but barrel notes not as evident. Palate is light for the ABV, but with a smooth creamy quality, alcohol unnoticed. This one was really quite a surprise, such an outstanding nose and nice smooth feel. Worth seeking out for Scotch ale fans.

Man, what a beautifully big beer. Massive up front hit of caramel, toffee, and then backed up by a bold hit of bourbon, maybe rhum. Medium body in the mouth with medium to high carbonation.

Pours a dark brown with a fine frothy beige head. Aroma is caramel, boozy and figs. Taste is fairly smooth, caramel and malts. Oak is hard to find. I expected more.

750ml bottle from Omni. Brown with a light biege frothy head that settles fairly quickly. Caramel, buckwheat honey, vanilla and oak, rum cake and bread - have not smelt anything quite like this. Unfortunately the rest doesn’t quite match up. Thinner then I would have hoped but still decent, oak, rum, good carbonation, somewhat sweet and becomes more so with plum and grape notes on the finish along with booze and oak/vanilla. An up and down beer - finish and aroma are very good but letdown in the middle. Worth trying.
