This one is different than the Bieropholie version as it has a different yeast and hops. It has also some difference through the fermentation process. The malts and the honey are not exactly the same. And, of course, this one has less alcohol. They have the same type of aromas, but some esters are really not the same.

Has a redish color. In mouth, it really is a Scottish style beer and it leaves a nice honey taste that kicks.... out of nowhere.

Bottle: Pours deep, cola brown with a thick ,dark tan head. Sweet, caramelized sugars, floral, chocolate, vanilla aroma. Taste is VERY sweet, honey, cola , vanilla. Molasses, dark fruits and cocoa... Very nice....but a bit too sweet for more than one.

Bottle. Pour is very dark brown with mocha head. Aroma is rich roasted malt, caramel, coffee, cloves, floral, chocolate, slight sweetness. Taste is rich as well, roasted coffee, molasses, caramel and light cream, some honey, some sour funk. Body is medium full with medium carbonation.

Honey Scotch Ale served in a small snifter. Very dark reddish amber with a fairly good, durable, light brown head. Wonderful aroma, suggestive of a fine Belgian dark ale. Very fruity, with dark ripe fruit including dates, figs, raisins. Only a light touch of peat smoke. A tad too sweet? True to style? Not really. Rather sweet for one thing and too fruity. But very tasty and enjoyable. Just leave your preconceptions behind.

Pours a very dark amber-brown, appearing largely opaque black in the glass, with a fairly buoyant khaki head that settles to a thicker ring and leaves some soapy lace. Nose involves deep caramel, grape must, floral perfume, toasted malt, some alcohol vapors. Taste is quite sweet, fairly tart, and somewhat bitter. Heavier bodied, oily, tingly with a fairly active carb, slightly syrupy, with a lengthy warm toasty drying bitter and tart finish. Lots of nuance, aromatically and on the palate. Very wine-like, pretty intense. An intriguing and ultimately enjoyable brew.

I poured some out on the grass and tried to see how it looked. Apparently the way it landed on my damn flip flop, it looks dark cloudy brown with mocha head. The lasting stickiness I’ll put down as lacing. Caramelized malt. You can taste some of the honey but it’s not too powerful. Decent for style - malt is a distinguishing characteristic. Bottle from Delires du Terroir.

Sampled at the 1st Festibiere d’hiver in Gatineau, Quebec (January 2012). It is their "cuvée spéciale" edition. Pours a hazy brown-mohagany colour with a decent tanned head. Sweet malt aromas with dark fruits, caramel, brown sugars and hints of chocolate. Alcohol is well-hidden with no apparant burns and nice stickiness. The taste is pretty close to the nose with a touch of hop in the finish. A beautiful strong Scottish ale.
