3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
8th November 2012
Opaque black - brown beer, good pale tan head. Smooth palate with a crispy edge, dry. Fresh dark malt, a little roast and a trace of coffee. Mild minerals. Dash of malt cream. Mellow and minerally orange citrus hops. Finishes dry with a mild coffee aftertaste. A bit dry but a fresh porter. Hardly a sweet stout!

4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
The appearance of this beer is a very, very dark brown with a small tan head, and the aroma is reminiscent of caramel, chocolate, and roasted malts. The taste is mildly umami, slightly sweet, and a touch bitter, and the palate combines a slick texture, medium body, long finish, and soft carbonation.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle at the Semi-Final Tasting, London. Thanks to Jack! Pours clear, red-brown with a creamy, tan cap. Cheap chocolate in the nose, some toasty sugars, some bread. Light sweet flavor with mild chocolate, faint tang, dark and toasty bread. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Light to medium sweet finish with some tangy dark malts, modest lactic tang, mild mocha. Meh.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle at the Semi-Final Tasting. Deep brown color with a small head. The nose is sweet caramel and powdered sugar, cola sweetness. The taste is very fruity - blackberry, cranberry. A bit tangy indeed. Lightly lactic, with a big runny toffee malt base. Medium body, soft carbonation. Perhaps this has a mild infection? Overall, I donít seem to be a massive fan of the style. This was OK.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle at Leightonís Euro Semi-Final tasting, thanks to jackl. It pours almost black, with a medium tan head. The nose is roasted malt, charcoal, coffee, salted caramel, toast and toasted coconut. The taste is tangy dark fruit, charcoal, blackcurrant, cherry, raisin, roasted malt, cola and balsamic vinegar. Medium body, moderate carbonation and foamy mouth-feel. To me this doesnít taste like a classic milk stout, but itís a decent beer nonetheless.
