Bottled. Deep rich engine oil black with a fine, stained brown head. Rich complex, toasted malt aroma. Ashy, burnt flavour. Sweet richness, gives way to intense, dryer, toasted malt flavours. I tried this fresh and bottled, side by side at the brewery, and the bottled was far more complex, refined and subtle. A fantastic beer for any stoutie.

Strong bitter roast in the finish, aftertaste is mildly sweet chocolate milkshake. Thanks to rauchbier for this one.

bb 08/07/14. Went for a fairly aggressive pour which resulted in a dense black/brown beer with a pale tan head. Aroma is coffee, sweet choc, a bit of licorice, rum... Light to medium body, mild carbonation. A touch of burnt treacle, bitter coffee, and there's was sweeter choc earlier in the proceedings. Nice. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

bartlebier (1643) - Belchum im Breisgau, GERMANY - OCT 5, 2013
Draught sampled at Mondial de la bičre, Mulhouse 09/2013. Convincing UK Challenger hop profile, smooth but not creamy, thinnish, some milk chocolate, roasted nuts, none too sweet.
