Bomber picked up in Montreal. Dark brown with a muddy brown head. Seems like the roasted malt, chocolate and slight anise fight with the oak, vanilla and rye and lose out. Fairly boozy, moderate carbonation and strong body, bitter but with a boozy and chocolate sweetness that continues throughout.

Bottle shared by YG, thanks! Pours a really dark brown with a really low head, more like a small veil, and no lacing. Nose is a good vanilla shot to the nose but also carries some nice caramel and chocolate notes. Taste is of chocolate first, bourbon and vanilla. Some light ash in the finish tarnish my overall appreciation a little. It is not too hot for such a high ABV brew so I’d say that alcohol is kind of well hidden. Body was medium to high and mouthfeel really smooth. This was never cloying and I would most likely have taken another glass if it weren’t that we had so much other beers to sample so I’d say that overall it’s a success for Le Castor!

Bottle to tulip glass.
App.: Pitch black with a brown, fadding head.
Aroma: Little bit of coffee, vanilla on the side. Alcohol appears as it warm.
Taste: Low bitterness for a RIS. Chocolate taste is more present.
Palate: Medium body with an OK carbonation. Not really bitter.
Was expecting a little better, not bad but personnally it doesn’t stand out of the crowd.

Superbe.

pours very dark brown with a nice light beige head, some retention and lacing. sweetish chocolate roastiness, fruity burnt caramel, molasses - moderate sweetness, not cloying, spicy woodsiness, coconut, brown sugar, eau-de-vie-like booziness, bit of ashes and resin. moderate to low carbonation, medium body - oily, a tad sticky, grassy-woodsy-coffee finish. nicely done!

Bottle (22 oz). Shared by czar, thanks! Black with a medium beige head and good lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, burnt caramel, chocolate, spices, peppery notes and hints of fruits. Taste is moderately sweet (not cloying) with roasted malt, chocolate, spices molasses, vanilla and light fruits. Medium body (a tad thin for the style). Moderate carbonation. Slightly dry finish. Good RIS. The rye barrel-aging effect make it a tad too peppery for my liking. With a better mouthfeel, it would be a very good RIS.
