660ml bottle courtesy of dad bought at flaveur d? ici A: great chocolatiness, with some roastiness App: dark brown close to black small beige head. T/p: full body with long bitter finish. average carbonation. O: pretty good misses only in richness. The silkiness from the oatmeal could have been more present. The aroma is pretty much right on. Impressive start from this new brewery.

A good stout especially given this is the first bottling from this brewery. A dominant roasty flavour with a bit of chocolate in it and a little bit of medicine flavour. However, I am really having a hard time tasting the oats and it is a bit thin, not having the milky thickness one associates with a good oatmeal stout.

Bomber poured into english pint. Pours a deep black/brown with some copper accents, with a minimal head which reduces to a ring. Aroma is roasted malts and coffee with some dark chocolate. Taste leaning on roasted side with only a trace amount of acidity. Bitterness is minimal. Palate is slick/creamy with some decent carbonation. Overall a pretty good "coffee" oatmeal stout. Not as good as St-Ambroise’s, but then again the roasted profile is damn good on this one...!

Castor Stout.

My Bottom Line :
Café au lait, caramel and roastiness delve into an earthy, leafy finish for a personable drinking experience somewhere between Sweet Stout and Nut Brown Ale.

Further Personal Perceptions :
-A creamy veil of foam tops the darkest brown gown.
-The aroma leads you to believe this is going to be sweeter than it is.
-Drinkability is quite high.
-This is highly professional for a first bottled batch.

Bottle.

Bouteille achetée à la Microbrasserie Le Castor. 5%.

Pours very dark with some brownish highlights at the edges of the glass; topped with a frothy light beige head yielding nice lacing. Pleasant malty and biscuity aroma, light roasted and chocolate tones as well. Good roasted malt character carrying through into a finish that is slightly dry and accented with a touch of ashy bitterness. The oats are nicely represented. Smooth on the palate and quite quaffable. This is not the most assertive Oatmeal Stout I’ve had, although it lends itself to enjoyment under many conditions...even in a warm, humid Montreal evening.
