660ml bottle. Brown with ruby edges, thin but lasting off-white head, light lacing. The aroma is roasty, some chocolate, light coffee. The flavour is lightly roasty, some light chocolate, slight sweetness, nutty. Sweet mouthfeel, medium/light body, medium carbonation. Finishes long, sweet with a bit of roast. Not bad, thin but nice.

Deep dark brown coloured body with a nice, two centimetre tall off-white head. Aroma of roasted malt, nuts, earth, mushrooms, oatmeal and a very dry yeast quality. Light to Medium-bodied; Strong dry and nutty malt at first with a good blast of oatmeal and mushrooms, followed by some subdued sweetness and grain flavours, but this is bone dry. Aftertaste shows the oatmeal, nuts, earth and dry yeast with only a faint bit of complexity at the very end with some lactose coming through. Overall, a nice beer - very drying, but a good beer for the style. I sampled this 66 cL bottle purchased from the IGA Grocery Store at the Berri-UQAM Station on Sainte Catherine in Montreal, Quebec, Canada for CA$5,79 yesterday on 13-February-2016 sampled a day later in my hotel room here in Montreal, Quebec, Canada on 15-February-2016.

Bottle (660 ml). Split 4-ways. Dark brown, almost black, with a small tan head leaving little lacing. Aroma is of roasted malts mostly, backed by dark chocolate, caramel/molasses, milky notes and nutty notes. Taste is more expressive and also more balance with the same flavors but the roasted malt toned down a bit and more place to dark chocolate and molasses. Sweetness level is rather low and there’s a mild bitterness. Medium body. medium carbonation. Silky mouthfeel. A good, flavorful and palateable stout. Delicate enough to be paired with a good meal, but flavorful enough to do well on his own.

660ml bottle from Halles St-Jean. Approximately one year old bottle. Aroma: loads of coffee, roasted malt and a bit of chocolate and raisin and maybe some shy red fruits. App: dark brown with red tint, little beige head concentrated all in the middle of the glass and of course leaving lacing. Taste and palate: medium to full body, a bit creamy, medium sweetness, light dry bitter finish. Overall: pretty good. Maybe aging it helped refine it. Kinda sweet but not too much. At least for now.

On tap at le projet. Jet black pour with frothy, creamy tan head. Aroma is very coffee forward, tons of coffee, oatmeal, roasted grain, toasty, light anise / molasses. Taste is quite bitter, roasty but also very hoppy, nice thick coffee and molasses flavor. Palate is nice and chewy, light carbonation. A nice satisfying stout that doesn’t destroy the abv scale.

Bottle: Poured a clear black color stout with a nice large brown foamy head with great retention and some lacing. Aroma of black chocolate notes with light roasted malt notes is quite pleasant. Taste is a nice mix between some black chocolate notes with some light roasted grain notes with some residual sugar notes that are still noticeable. Well brewed for the style and very nice level of drinkability.

Arômes de chocolat, café noir et léger côté grillé. En bouche, on goûte beaucoup l’avoine ainsi que le chocolat. Petite touche de houblon et un côté lactose. Très légère, corps mince.

Pour is black and surprisingly thin, with a big khaki cap that sticks around and leaves some nice lacing. Nose is chocolate, faint fruit and caramel, a bit of coffee. Coffee comes out more in the taste. Weirdly it’s both creamy and watery, kind of like an oatmeal stout-light. Finish is very mildly bitter, with a bit of lingering coffee. Goes down easy, but kind of plain Jane.
