COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bauwimpin was originally a blend of Bauweraerts Gouden Ale and Imperial India aged in Chardonnay barrel with brett, produced in 2010. The inspiration for this year Bauwimpin is again based on Bauweraerts Gouden Ale (35%) but this time combined with Rye Pale Ale (30%), India Rouge (30%) and Triple Cheval (5%). Aged five months in the same chardonnay barrel that was previously "contaminated" with brettanomyces. Only 200 L. made. Initial launch at the Soirée des Brasseurs de Shawinigan on august 13th.

In short: A rustic semi-funky woody hoppy beer. A fun experiment.
How: Tap at Soirée Des Brasseurs 2011, Shawinigan + tap at brewpub
The look: Cloudy amber body topped by a small beige head
In long: Nose is citrusy-hoppy, very rustic and also with something resembling cedar. Body unfortunately feels a bit light and airy. Taste has fresh rye, lots of wood, Saison-like rustic yeast, citrus fruits, pine-tree, fresh baguette, a bit of honey. The beer uses brett but it felt more like a very rustic Saison than a funky/wild beer. There was a lot of wood in this beer but the chardonnay (barrel used to age the beer) didn’t overwhelmed the beer. Very easy to drink. When it was first released at Soirée Des Brasseurs 2011 I thought it was a bit bland but a few months later at the pub the brett had worked it magic and it was pretty good. Quite a complex recipe here, a precisely blend of 4 different beers aged in brett-infected wine barrels… I guess the Cheval Blanc’s brewer likes to do things the hard way, he probably likes making love standing up in a hammock

A hazed golden ale with a thin white head. In aroma, a smooth fruity malt with white grape skins, watermelon, lichee pulp, very nice. In mouth, a smooth fragrant malt with light Orval Brett, white grape, very nice and smooth. Beautiful. On tap at brewpub, Sept. 3 2011.

Pours a slightly cloudy saturated golden-orange with almost no head to speak of. Intense and complex aromas of grapefruit marmelade, caramel, some white grapes notes and a bit bready. Light to medium mouthfeel, very soft carbonation, some sweetness at first that quickly develops into a dry bitter orange bitterness, a pinch of sourness, very long curaçao bitter finish. Very interesting blend even tough quite odd brew!

Pour quite hazy golden orange light beige head. Aroma brett heavy, funk, barnyard, citrus hops, mango, tropical fruit. Taste brett funk, quite bitter, citrus floral, caramel, spice, mango, tropical fruit. MF crisp medium body great carb. Wow extremely complex blen where all the flavors are decently balanced outstading.

On tap @ Soirée des Brasseurs. Cloudy dark blond with small white head. Aroma is bretty, some oak, vanilla, butter, smoked wheat, old hops. Bretty flavour, light sourness, quite wheaty, saison yeast. Palate is light, kind of falls apart and lacks structure. Good nose, but doesn’t live up to the expectation it creates.
