3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Quevillon (2014) - Sainte-Thérèse, - NOV 8, 2009
Draink brewpub on tap (20 oz), November 8, 2009. Red honey, small head. Aroma of citrus hops, a little sweet. The taste Columbus hops is very bitter with out mercy, unpretentious fruity aftertaste. For fetish bitterness!
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Glouglouburp (4784) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - DEC 2, 2009
In short: A smooth, tangy, floral juicy Pale ale. Decent session beer.
How: Tap at brewpub
The look: Cloudy dark golden body topped by a small off-white head
In long: The pleasant aromatic nose is floral and fruity. Body is slim, moderately malted and with a juicy texture. Taste is moderately fruity (oranges, berries), flower juice, a tiny bit of honey/caramel. A light sticky floral bitterness. Overall this is rather low in intensity and low in malts for an IPA. This is more like a Pale Ale imho. This is just a decent session, nothing more. I was hoping for more from a beer using hops named after such an important historical figure. The man who set out to find a route to India and along the way created one of the most enduring male tradition. He got lost, refused to believe he was lost, never admitted he was lost and never asked for directions.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 lefossoyeur (274) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - DEC 2, 2009
Deep blonde with a medium white foam. Nose is dominated by woody notes and some citrus. Medium body with a great bitterness again on the woody side, some cedar and a long clean bitter finish. A bit one-sided with the woodiness of Colombus hops dominating all the way, as you would expect with a mono-hop IPA, but I must admit I enjoyed it a lot. Highly drinkable. Another pint please...
3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20 Lubiere (7003) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - NOV 25, 2009
A lightly hazed golden IPA with a thin white head. In aroma, a sweet orange pulp, lemongrass, floral hops, very smooth and pleasing. In mouth, a good IPA with resinous pinhey hops, a bit of honey, but not enough malts to sustain the hops. On tap at brewpub, Nov. 20 2009.
