Subtle piney, citrucy hops in the aroma mixed well with some roasted malt in the flavor. Interesting take on the style.

Pint at LCB. Black IPA. Pours a nice deep dark brown almost black with a nice frothy lasting head. Aroma is pretty nice- fresh piney and citrus hops with light mint and black and dark malts are very toned down. A bit of sharp harsh nutty chocolate malt in the flavor then the hops come back in the finish- with a harsh bitter finish- ok overall.

The aroma has a nice blend of resinous, piney hops with roasted malt. Pours a murky brown color with a medium beige head. Solid flavor of piney and resinous hops, roasted malt, restrained dryness and lingering bitterness. Nicely done!

(Rating #2116)

In short: A roasted and very coniferous dark IPA.
How: Tap at brewpub. First batch ever (dec 2008)
The look: Very dark ruby-mahogany body topped by a small but persistent tan head
In long: Nose is roasted with a lot of pine-tree. Taste has toasted cookies, flour, cacao, tree bark, burnt toasts, dry croutons, coniferous tree. Coniferous tree and high roasted level blend together and gives an overall sensation wood coal sensation. The finish has a lot of coniferous tree, a lot of roastiness and it is as bitter and it is dry. A hopping adding juicy fruitiness to the dry pine-tree would have increased drinkability. As it stands it may be a little too dry for its own good. Very straightforward. As far as this new trend of India Dark Ale is concerned this beer is a little below average. But to me, an average India Dark Ale is a very good beer. India Dark Ale, the best new trend since the extra-low waist g-string bikinis.
