On a nitro tap at La Cheval Blanc. Pours a deep black with a medium tan head. Deep roast aromas and a touch of chocolate. Thin (due to the nitro) and smooth. This might be better without the nitro. Nice roast flavors. Ends with a long roasty bitterness. At 4.5% this would make a decent session stout (if one could tolerate the bedlam that is La Cheval Blanc’s bar scene… I couldn’t), though the bitterness may be a bit heavy handed for that. Tried all 8 of their beers on tap when I went, and this was the clear winner, by quite a bit.

Opaque black, thick creamy foam. Very decent appearance. Milky, roast and toffee like aroma. Thick , juicy brew . Oily , creamy texture . Black clean roasts .Different, but very nice.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours a dark brown color with a medium white head. A aroma of vanilla and a light roasted malt. The flavor is dominated by sweet vanilla, yeasty, coffee, a light roast. A bit thin, but overall nice.

Draught at Le Cheval Blanc. Pours black with an average to large lasting creamy/frothy tan head and good lacing on the glass -- looks lovely. Great aroma of roasted malt and coffee foremost followed by lactic notes and light leafy hops. Delicious flavour of roasted malt, coffee, cream and some chocolate. Average bitter finish. Medium+ bodied, creamy mouthfeel. A wonderful Oatmeal Stout -- I loved it.

Black, dense nitro tan head. Roasted coffee grains in the aroma, slightly creamy and chocolatey. The same profile keeps going on in mouth, rather lactic, very quaffable. Mild and refreshing stout, easy to take and well made, but on the counterpart a bit thin.

UPDATED: SEP 2, 2010 In short: A commercial black cake in a pint.
How: Tap at brewpub.
The look: Black body topped by a medium persistent tan head
In long: Timid slightly roasted nose. Fluffy/foamy body. Taste of roasted dark malts, black chocolate, some lactic notes, light coffe hints. More precisely this beer really tastes like a generic black cake. Everything from the taste, mouthfeel and finish reminded me of a *DANY* Dunkin Heinz black cake. Nothing special about it but this is a reliable beer and a regular of the Cheval Blanc lineup and as such this beer has become my late-night fallback choice. This beer and my ex-girlfriend phone number.

Saveur: Goût de café et de chocolat. La durée de l’arrière goût est moyenne. Palette: Le corps est plein et la texture est crémeuse. L’effervescence en bouche est moyenne. Présence de café en arrière goût. (Rating #357)

On tap at the brewpub. The body was black with a small khaki head. The aroma was coffee with a little bit of chocolate. The taste was weak coffee with more mild chocolate. The body was smooth and mild overall. Leaves a lot of lacing on the glass.

Huge roasted malt aroma with notes of chocolate and coffee. Dark black, opaque body with thick brown head that lasts (nitro). Touch of licorice, bitter chocolate, coffee grounds. in the flavour. Fairly lactic. Lasting roastiness. Creamy smooth mouthfeel but watery thin body. On tap at the brewpub. Sampled with Lubiere.
