Thick chocolate and fair roastiness with some hints of licorice in the aroma. Clear, darkest brown with ruby highlights topped by a low but lasting cover of tan brown head that laces well. Chocolate and licorice continue into the flavour that also offers some light fruitiness and a fair finishing roasty bitterness. Medium body with somewhat low carbonation. On tap at the brewpub.

07.11.05 Tap at brewpub. Red-brown, near black our with creamy tan head. Sheeting lace. Aroma is cocoa, roasted but mild. Shoe polish. Flavor also mildy roasty but pleasant. Would be well served by at least a shot of bitterness at some point...but it doesn’t come until after the finish.

Another run of the mill porter, no different than anywhere else. Light chalky roasted grain aroma with some chocolate scent, thin palate, very light smoke or wood flavor along with the black malts. Didn’t impress me. My notes simply call this one "same old shit".

RBSG 2005. Ruby tinged black body, small beige head.(3+) Mild roast and chocolate in the aroma. Flavour is moderately roasty with a medium dryness. Strikes me more like a thin bodied stout than a porter. Dry lingering aftertaste. Average palate. Quaffable but average.

RBSG 2005: The final beer of my 5-oz sampler. Poured brown with a small off white head. Light chocolate aroma. Not much there in the flavor. Light malt and choclate and that’s it. Very thin bodied and disappointing.

2005 RBSG Montreal Saturday. Dark ruby colour with a lasting frothy off-white head. Sweet chocolate and coffee aroma. Milk chocolate and coffee flavours with a lightly roasty bitter finish. Medium bodied, a bit thin and watery.
