3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Glouglouburp (4784) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - AUG 5, 2010
In short: A basic well malted smoked with a light maple twist. Good.
How: Tap at brewpub
The look: Clear dark amber body topped by a persistent small beige head
In long: Nose of fresh whole-wheat bread and a moderate smoke presence. Taste packs a lot of cereals, a bit of toffee, wood resin, a bit of maple syrup, some smoke. A mild woody resinous bitterness to conclude. Considering the style, the level of smoke is in the low-medium range. I enjoyed that the maple syrup flavor remained rather discreet (I really don’t like upfront maple syrup in a beer). All in all this was a rather straightforward unpretentious session beer. I liked it. Yet another pint of beer for me at Cheval blanc. I like to go there, it is the closest pub walking distance from my home. I am not lazy, I’m just physically conservative
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 rederic (2326) - montréal, Quebec, CANADA - JUN 28, 2010
Dark brown color, with a beige head, hint of smoky malt in the nose, with some mild toasted, carmelized malt notes, with some sweet dried fruit, faint chocolatey accents, in a soft maple syrup, sponge toffee sweetness aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a nice toasted, caramel, smoky malt, smoked ham, beechwood character with a faint maple syrup flavor, with a mild dark dried fruit undertone fruitiness, leading towards a malty, caramel, lingering smoky finish.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Lubiere (7003) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - JUN 23, 2010
A copper amber ale with a thin creamy off white head. A smooth caramel with light peated smoked malts. In mouth, a sweet caramel malt with light peated noted, a bit of scotch notes, overall, light in mouth. On tap at brewpub, June 20 2010.

(Rating #3048)
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 MartinT (6350) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - MAY 20, 2010
My Bottom Line:
Maple-glazed smoked ham aromas delve into mostly malty beechwood smoke flavors in this straightforward and effective Québécois Rauchbier.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A healthy head of foam recedes to a ring atop the misty russet.
-The added maple syrup is well balanced with the smoked malts.
-The frothy carbonation and almost plump dextrins make for a comfortable body which is a tad heavier than your traditional Rauchbiers.
-The earthy, herbal hop finish is especially pleasant, considering the malty predominance early on.
On tap at the brewpub.
