beerbuzzmontreal (2909), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Oct 6, 2008 Pours a cloudy reddish amber color with a medium white head. Pleasant aroma of smoked and toasted malt. Interesting flavor of smoked, toasted malt with some caramel, it has a vienna feel but with smoke added, there’s some bitterness in the end. The body is medium with a creamy texture and medium carbonation. The smoky part isn’t very strong compared to Schlenkerla products, but it’s still a very interesting beer. Rastacouere (5551), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Jul 7, 2008 Objectively speaking:
Unagressive rauchbeer that does not venture too far in the smokey territories.
I like:
I’m glad they finally tried a rauchbeer.
I dislike:
Remove the smoke and I feel like the beer would be dull indeed: frail-bodied, almost headless and one-dimensional (almost no fruitiness). A bit rough in the finish. Not very supple and quitting with a fair does of bitterness akin to burnt caramel, but with a leafy component. TaktikMTL (2749), Montréal-Nord, Quebec, Canada Jun 25, 2008 En fût. (Rating #1765)
