3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Boutip (3467) - Gatineau, - JUN 22, 2010
Draft: Poured a cloudy dirty beige color ale with a large foamy head with good retention. Aroma of funky yeast with dry finish and some wet leather. Taste is very refreshing with distinctive notes of Brett and a nice malt backbone with a dry aftertaste. Body is quite full with limited filtration and good carbonation. Very well brewed and something I wouldn’t mind having more often.

Draft. Pours an amber body with an off white head. Floral hop tones, hibiscus and dry earth and leather like tones. Dry and bretty with a hint of almond and a bread y body. Light citrus and wheat with a soft body and crisp somewhat herbal finish. Bread y and dry with a hint of pear. Very nice.

In short: A rye based Saison with a moderate barnyard/brett character. Good beer.
How: Tap at brewpub, Night Of The Funk event
The look: Cloudy dark golden topped by a medium off-white head
In long: Nose is only moderately bretty with a bit of rye and some fruity notes. Taste has plenty of cereals, rye, salads croutons, some citrus, a zest of lemon, a bit of funk. Finish is rather dry. The beer is tasty and clean. It blends elements I like (brett, rye, barnyard). Yet for reasons I am unable to word the overall was just very good and not excellent like I expected. This is the last beer I rated at this special Cheval Blanc event. So much beer followed. Too much beer. At the end of the night I was looking for my car keys everywhere until after one hour someone told me that I don’t have a car.

4 oz pour at mondial. Brown pour, a mellow aroma of fresh grain, light brett notes, quite subtle. Very grainy taste, fresh bread, dough and like flavors. Lacks a real tart flavor from the brett, maybe they will develop some more over time. A little too discreet for a wild saison.

on tap at the brewpub.
This time, this saison with brett really worked! i’m getting some great funkiness here! some slight barnyard flavors with some leather, and wet grass. Interesting stuff. The subtle saison citrus notes come though in the finish, a refreshing beer!

(Rating #3069)
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Fred82 (1824) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - JUN 8, 2010
On tap at Brouhaha night of the Funk.
Appearance : Hazy yellow with small head.
Aroma : Yeasty and a bit humid and wet. Light hints of brett. Not that much brett.
Taste : Rye, some esters. A bit spicy and a bit humid. Slightly bitter and rather dry. A bit fruity.
Overall : Tasty stuff, nice bitterness, nice rye profile but not enough brett to be really funky and barnyard.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Dickinsonbeer (5075) - Hoboken, New Jersey, USA - JUN 6, 2010
On tap at Cheval Blanc. Notes from chalkboard says they used Brett Bruxx. Pours a deep golden copper with a thinning head. Aroma is a touch bland- not much funk going on, lots of earthy spicy malts, almost can tell there is rye, but not much, also get hints of doughy wheat, and spicy phenolics with earthy notes. Flavor is earth, dank soil notes, mostly clean- no brett bruxx coming through- just light earthy and leather is all you get- crackery and light lemon and some mineral on the back of the tongue. Mostly dry and overall fairly clean- still not capturing my imagination on this one either. Ok.
