In short: A tasty, harsh, roasted imperial stout with moderate oak wood presence. Very good beer even if inferior to the regular version.
How: Tap at Montreal Mondial de la Bière 2010
The look: Black body topped by small tan head
In long: Nose is moderately oaky/bourbonny and a little bit smoky. Taste of chocolate, old coffee filter, astringent roastiness, moderate barrel wood presence, earth, some vanilla, burnt wood, a bit of booze. Overall a little harsh. Overall the oak barrel aging was not overdone. If not mistaken I think they used chips and not actual barrels. But even if they did not go overboard with the oak flavor I still prefer their regular Imperial Russe. Another oak aged beer that is not as good as the original. This is getting old. And unfortunately so am I.
