COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
An old classic from the brewery finally revisited 10 years later! A belgian special ale, it is a dark amber with a strong malty presence, almost reminiscent of a belgian scottish ale. The addition of some classic spices and the phenolic yeast add complexity to the mix. Ale brune de type belge, qui rappelle un peu certaines scotch ales belges, avec une dominance de malt caramélisé. L’ajout d’épices classiques et des parfums phénoliques de la levure complète le portrait. À boire avec modération pour ne pas couler à flot...

In short: A sweet (toffee/caramel) spicy beer of some kind. Not bad, not good.
How: Tap at brewpub
The look: Clear dark golden body topped by a small beige head with medium retention
In long: Strong aroma with toffee, spicy notes and tobacco leafs. Body is a bit oily, carbonation is medium. Taste is rather sweet with toffee and caramel. A bit buttery. Some spiciness distract from the sweetness but not enough. I couldn’t really pick the exact spices, it was just spicy. Felt like some kind of slightly spicy scotch ale more than a Abbey Dubbel. The first half of my glass was ok but the strong spicy sweetness character became tiresome and I didn’t care much for the second half. Titanic… Hindenburg…. Ford Focus… All sad reminders that construction of transportation vehicles should be left to the Asians.

An orange amber ale with ahtin white head. In aroma, a pleasant pungeant and perfumey ale with aniseed, orange peel, musky. In mouth, a super oily malt with smooth coriander and curacao, phenolics, a bitter in finale. Brings back good memories. On tap at the brewpub, Jan 16 2010.

(Rating #2835)

Drank at the brewpub on January 17th, 2010, on tap (10 oz). Hazelnut brown, thin head. Aroma of malted barley and spicy brown sugar. Taste of semi sweet barley, slightly smoky malt, aftertaste so bitter and spicy. I have already drank the bottle verstion two years ago, but it was a 15 years old bottle, in any case it was pleasant with good bitterness and a touch sweet!
