On tap at Chevel Blanc. THe color is a ruby red with a thin beige head THe aroma packs a punch of flavors like malt, hops, berries and alcohol. The taste is sweet with all of the above and more like a barley wine. It was like drinking a fruity liquor.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a dark red color with a small white head. An intense fruity and caramel nose, toffee and smoke. The flavor is a dry sweet dusty hot as hell brew. Some sweet fruit, toffee, toasted malts, sugary and very over the top- nice! A nice brew for sure.

Dark reddish brown with a small creamy tan head. Almost nothing on the nose at first, (this beer is served way too cold!), but as it warms, vinous aromas and light caramel finds their way. Full body, creamy, very light carbonation but it’s pleasing here, sweet, intense maltiness but very balanced, finishes smooth, with the munich malts shining. Very nice bock.

In short: A malt orgy offering rich caramel/toffee and all. Too easy to drink.
How: Tap at brewpub
The look: Clear dark ruby body topped by a very small beige head
In long: Nose of rich fattening caramel and toffee, the likes of which you find in handcrafted confectionary stores. Big fat velvety decadent body with an appropriate smooth carbonation. Rich caramel, rich toffee, barley candy, etc. This is a malt orgy. Some wooden hops add some tree bark. No alcohol presence at all. Big, fat, rich, sweet, heavy but never sugary. A pleasure to drink. Cheval Blanc is walking distance from my home and I will never drive home when I’m totally drunk. Never. That would be stupid. When I’m totally drunk I drive over to one of my ex house.

Drank on tap (10 oz) at the brewpub, on February 1st, 2011. Mahogany brown, thin head. Aroma of candy spicy notes of dark rum. Taste of alcoholized barley sugar, a few notes of raisins, dry bitterness. A good sweet and warming bock!

Lubiere (10139) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 1, 2011
A dark reddish amber bock with a thin off white head. A large malt bomb with maple wood notes, vanilla, madera, quite impressive. In mouth, a barley wine like offering, with sweet treacle and barley candy, a not of creamy liquor, a bit loying but still quite nice. On tap at brewpub, Dec. 4 2010.

(Rating #3406)

My Bottom Line:
Generous Munich malts provide plenty of aroma, flavor and body to indulge in. building a plump and soft nectar of caramelized cereals. Beautiful winter sipping, I must say.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A creamy ring of foam circles the mahogany.
-Wooden hop bitterness almost balances out the portly Munich malts.
-If there were such a thing as a German Barley Wine, this would be it.
-I simply love well extracted Weyermann malts. All of ’em. Yep.
-Alcohol is well hidden underneath those tons of malts and their sensual sugars.
-Light banana undertones are hallucinated.

On tap at the brewpub.
