Bottle 50 cl. Courtesy of yespr. Pours a clear nutty brown with a beige head. Odd, sweet artificial woody booze aroma. Thin body, doesn’t appear 7% at all. Some burned caramel and extremely artificial Cognac flavours. 270413

Bottle 50cl, an amber brown beer with medium head. Nose is on caramel and yes cognac notes. Aroma is on dry burnt caramel, cognac notes, light barrel touch at the finish. Bitter and astringent notes, light roasted notes, very less complex than expected.

500ml bottle served in a snifter around 14 degrees. Pours a nice opaque black robe letting shine some dark maple highlights. I got about a finger of frothy/creamy off-white head and I could easily spot some big carbs. The nose is liquor and cherries with not so much presence of the hops or yeasts. On the tongue, this beer is copious liquor with a sweet cherry / vanilla character. Some spices come through, nutmeg perhaps, but it’s subtle. The brew feels too aqueous and lacks body to accompagny such a strong liquorish flavour. Good, but not great. Cheers!

500 ml bottle from Drummondville Metro. Pours a clear chestnut brown with tiny light tan head. Aroma is caramel, fruit and an odd spicy note that must be the cognac. Flavour is rather medicinal with caramel, fruit and a pronounced sourness. Lifeless body. Not my cup of tea.

Halleluja !

Bottle from Terre de Boissons, Calais. Yes it’s got some cognac to it, but for me it lends a bit of tangerine orange to the dark beer. I have to admit that when I got home with my haul of Grimoire beers from Calais and saw the ratings I thought they’d all be duds, but I think they are alright. Canadians are clearly a lot more fussy about their beers than me.

Bottle @ yespr. Pours a dark amber brown color with a small off-white head. Has a fruity malty toffee aroma. Fruity malty weak sour spicy caramel flavor. Has a fruity malty weak sour caramel finish.
