Le Grimoire Grimousse

Bottle from Fripon in Old Montreal. Dark amber color with moderate, off white head. Mild malt, nutty and grainy aroma and taste. Not much in the way of flavor. Mildly sweet.

Bouteille de 341 ml. La mousse se présente de façon modeste pour ensuite laisser place à un simple anneau. La couleur est cuivrée. Au nez des arômes de caramel brûlé, de vinaigre, de tofee, de beurre et de noix viennent compléter l’étape du sens de l’odorat. En bouche le corps est mince-moyen. On découvre des saveurs de caramel au beurre, de caramel brûlé, de vinaigre et de noisettes. La finale est sèche et âcre. Probablement infectée.

Bottle from trip to Montreal. Clear amber with a moderate slightly off-white head. Aroma of sour fruit and funky cheese - ah yeah, I got myself an infected bottle. Thin mouthfeel. Flavour starts completely dead, then the unpleasant sour fruit notes kick in. Ugh, not good.

Bottle. Pours a clear amber-brown with a large rocky white head. Very mild aroma of grain, caramel malt and light hops. Flavour, well there’s isn’t much of one, there’s some grain, caramel malt and faint hops hidden in this bland, watery taste. Average bodied, quite carbonated. Nothing bad (it seems I’ve luckily avoided one of the infected bottles mentioned below), it’s just very dull.

In one word, "sour". In two, "undrinkably sour". The aroma smells of sour fruit, the taste is bitter and sour, and the aftertaste is a ten second explosion of intense and ever-increasing sourness. Imagine biting into the hottest pepper you have ever tasted, replace the sensation of heat with that of sourness, and you will understand the taste of this beer.
