Rastacouere (5418), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Jun 27, 2006 Clearish copper hue covered by a light off-white head. Soapy, sour lactic nose with vegetal and spicy undertones. Rather dusty, powdery feel makes it appear oldish and unpolished. Grows earthier and spicier in mouth, always this tartness that goes along. I’m not sure how voluntary all those flavours are, but for Grimoire, it’s more than acceptable. Light-medium soapy medium body, a mixture of spices, grease and sourness over a moderately carbonated bed. MartinT (4458), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Jun 6, 2006 A clinging ring circles the glittering amber...Typical Grimoire dusty yeast in the nose, alongside soapy esters and citrusy spices...Dry, floral hop bitterness comes up confidently after the orangey fruitiness...Alcohol is ably concealed for its size, and lean caramel maltiness attempts to create a foundation...Not a Belgian-style abbey beer as advertised, more of a styleless strong ale... muzzlehatch (4429), Burlington, USA Jun 17, 2006 Sampled draught at the Mondial de la Bière in Montreal, 2006. Clear darkish amber with a thin bit of retained head dying into a small ring....soapy nose redolent of old, rotting herbs, perhaps some DMS? and lactic, milky qualities don’t do any favors either....moderately sweet body with faint bitterness at the front quickly taking over, along with some ashy/burnt qualities towards the finish....light citrus doesn’t really help matter much, a real misfire though I guess I’m the only one that had a bad experience with it thus far. heemer77 (3827), Savannah, Missouri, USA Jun 5, 2006 Sampled at Mondial 2006. The body was medium gold with a slightly off white head. The aroma was sweet sweat and pears with some earthy funk. The taste was dry leather with some bread. There was not much fruit. The mouthfeel was soft. blankboy (2687), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Mar 13, 2008 Bottle. Pours a clear orange-copper with a large foamy off-white head. Aroma starts grainy and yeasty followed some sugary sweetness and fruit -- decent. Flavour of Quebec yeast, grain, mild sugar, a bit of fruit and some alcohol and light hops in the finish. That finish is a touch iffy. Average bodied. Not bad, I didn’t mind it.
