3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 muzzlehatch (4425) - Burlington, USA - JUN 9, 2005
Sampled draught at the Mondiale. I had no hopes for this beer after the three mediocre samples I had at the pub a short while after it opened, but...that’s what the Mondiale is for, isn’t it? Deep orange, quite opaque with lots of lace and a lasting creamy head...pungent, heady and sour aroma, like some illegal plants that do strange things to your mind...later, spoiled potatos for fun...full, sour and spicy body with a hint of sweetness at the front , wet piney hops midpalate and a dry, mouthcoating longish finish...well done, these guys have improved.

Pale amber pour with a thin white head. Good looking beer. The aroma is a little bit caramelly with some lean malt character as well. A touch of light honey and a bit of lingering malt. There's a touch of light sweetness and honey.

Bottle. Light to moderate malt and hop notes of grain, cereal and perfume, light cheese for the yeast with hints of date, wood and honey, Head is small, fizzy, off-white with fair lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is sparkling clear light amber. Flavor starts lightly to moderately sweet and lightly acidic, then finishes lightly bittersweet. Palate is light to medium, watery with a lively carbonation. There is not one IPA quality to this beer. It’s somewhat drinkable, but it’s mostly deception in bottle.

Pours a cloudy dirty gold with a small white top that quickly turns into a thin ring. Aroma is quite nice and enticing. A little pine hop sharpness with some honey sweetness. Taste however is lacking. There is some hop bitterness initially and then you wait for the flavouring and sweetness in the balance and there is nothing, it just drops off.

Bottle - 500ml. Hazy amber body with a very thin off-white creamy/bubbly head. Decent hoppy aroma with malty, brown sugar, and flowery hints. Taste is rather thin and lacks complexity. It ends with a short bitter finish. Drinkable.

My bottle [500ml] shared with HogTownHarry & garthicus. Pours a cloudy orange-copper with an average size diminishing frothy off-white head. Decent hoppy aroma. Flavour: WTF!? How does one begin to describe this? It doesn’t taste good. Average bodied. Smelled alright but the taste is awful.

August 19, 2010 - 500ml bottle shared by blankboy with me and garthicus. Hazy amber-gold with a smallish fizzy diminishing off-white head. Loooovely aroma - pungent, catty bitterness (Simcoe? Please?) - with sharp citrus zest and plenty of sweet juicy malt backing it up (8-). Taste is not anywhere near as nice - massive disappointment - hardly any funky hop bitterness, mostly lemon juice sourness - feh. Average body, still, acidic, dry lemon seed aftertaste - what a let-down - got to reward that aroma, though.
2.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 garthicus (2090) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - AUG 19, 2010
Thanks to Blankboy. Appearance: golden orange with a small white head. Aroma: slight onion? Malt, honey, band aid, a little grassy hops. Weird. Flavour: weird grapefruit & caramel, band aid, sweetener, turned my stomach a little. Very weird.
