A reddish brown ale with a thin lacing off white head. In aroma, a musty and caramel malt, butterscotch, dusty and weird. In mouth, a sweet herbal carmal with grassy hops, roasted nuts, a bit harsh. On tap at Braise et Houblon, June 19 2011.

On tap @ the brewpub, enjoyed as part of their "compass style" degustation tasting tray. This batch was 9.3%. Lovely clear rich mahogany with a prim tan cap. Sweet caramel and prunes, lightly boozy, nice bitter bite, warming finish.

Bouteille 50cl, Bottled on 19/03/2013, lot# 417.

Draught at Brasseurs du Temps. Pours a very deep ruby, almost brown, with a small diminishing creamy off-white head. Decent lacing. Aroma of dark fruit, caramel malt, light hops, brown sugar, a hint of chocolate and more, it’s quite nice. Flavour of brown sugar, dark fruit, caramel malt, light hops, a hint of alcohol, nuts and like the aroma, much more, it’s complex and there’s lots going on. Medium bodied. This is great, I loved it. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

(Rating #3733)

December 6, 2012 - on draught at Les Brasseurs du Temps. Bright and clear deep fire engine ruby - clear, bright, with an average fizzy/creamy tan head. Smells great - sweet caramel, but quite roasty, a hint of peat, some alcohol - nice balance. Taste follows, but just perfect - add maple syrup and woodsmoke with fresh grain and some floral bitterness to balance it all out. The body could be a bit thicker, it seemed just a bit watery (I expected this to be literally syrupy) - mild carbonation, a quickish caramel and light yeast/spice finish - fantastic version of a scotch ale, one of the best - just more body, please.

Bottle: Poured a hazy deep amber color ale with a large light brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of deep caramelized sugar and light toffee notes with light dried fruit ester. Taste is also dominated by deep caramelized malt notes with some toffee notes with light dried fruits notes. Sweetness level is well balanced. Body is full with limited filtration and good carbonation with no apparent alcohol. I usually like my scotch ale with some peat notes but still very enjoyable with great drinkability.
