Darl solidly ruby red coloured beer with a medium tan head. Noses of sweet chocolate, red wood fruits, lightly smoked malts and leather/earth notes. At first a touch of livelyness which is overwhelemed by a full body a oily heavy slick texture. Supported by a heavy sweet taste with faint bitterness to it with some light hints of saltiness. Heavy but also really well balanced. The finish is offering a notch of dryness, lasting with a slick/oily linger for quite some time. Excellent beer!

Bouteille 50cl, Bottled on 19/03/2013, lot# 417.

Happy to be drinking this as it seems a rarer style for Canadian breweries. The body is a nice clear dark red but also had a lot of floating sediment. Yes, clear with sediment. I should also mention that my bottle is 9.25%ABV. From the lovely lace-leaving tan head comes notes of chocolate, toasted walnuts, vanilla, almonds, a light wood and smokey whiskey aroma as well. It’s got a nice slick body to it and is well balanced, a tad on the sweet side and great for the style. It’s a little boozy but such a trait I find welcome in this style. The finish leaves a nice dry smokey flavour. A nice treat for those who enjoy the style.

December 6, 2012 - on draught at Les Brasseurs du Temps. Bright and clear deep fire engine ruby - clear, bright, with an average fizzy/creamy tan head. Smells great - sweet caramel, but quite roasty, a hint of peat, some alcohol - nice balance. Taste follows, but just perfect - add maple syrup and woodsmoke with fresh grain and some floral bitterness to balance it all out. The body could be a bit thicker, it seemed just a bit watery (I expected this to be literally syrupy) - mild carbonation, a quickish caramel and light yeast/spice finish - fantastic version of a scotch ale, one of the best - just more body, please.

500 ml bottle. Pours a clear dark mahogany with some sediments and a resilient beige head. Aroma is smoke and burnt caramel. Flavor is very smokey, roasted caramel, roasted malt, brown sugar, coffee. Finish has good coffee bitterness, herbal notes. Somewhat boozey. Lingering smoke, coffee, caramel. Warming sensation. Strong body, oily mouthfeel, weak to average carbonation. Very good, very robust scotch ale.

Draught at Brasseurs du Temps. Pours a very deep ruby, almost brown, with a small diminishing creamy off-white head. Decent lacing. Aroma of dark fruit, caramel malt, light hops, brown sugar, a hint of chocolate and more, it’s quite nice. Flavour of brown sugar, dark fruit, caramel malt, light hops, a hint of alcohol, nuts and like the aroma, much more, it’s complex and there’s lots going on. Medium bodied. This is great, I loved it. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
