500 ml bottle bought at at Les Marchants de la Bière in Sainte-Thérèse (Quebec) on July 9, 2014. Black, medium head. Malted barley aroma with hints of chocolate and berry. Taste of burnt barley, spicy herbs, very dry, good bitterness. A good homage to an 100 year old tragedy!

Pours a dark brown color with a medium tan head. Roasted malt on the nose with some sugared coffee (Mocha). Dark Cherries can also be detected with some molasses and some smoke. Medium body. OIly and Sweet on the palate and the sweetness lingers on. You get the smokyness in the ending also. Quite interesting.

500 ml bottle. Pours a brownish-orangeish black with a resilient, thick beige head. Aroma is chocolate chip, roasty, mocha. Flavor is chocolate, milk coffee, biscuit, sweet caramel. Finish is some roasted bitterness. Lingering lactic. Medium body, soft mouthfeel, average carbonation.

Orthonasal : Woodsy-toasted, slightly green hay undertones, very clean but could use some intensity. Retronasal: Much more complex than the nose suggests. Hints of roast and bitter chocolate are revealed, along with something that recalls having drunk a large glass of unpasteurised apple juice. Appearance: Abysmally dark brown with reddish tones when put under light. Head is thick but not very persistent. Taste: Slight but persistent bitterness, complemented by nonsweet roundness. Acidity that builds on with every mouthful. Palate : Texture is soft to begin with but turns to non-exaggerated dryness once swallowed or turned around to exacerbate fizziness. Texture is slightly aqueous, but nothing unpleasant. Overall medium body, with thick, soft entrance followed by lighter, dryer finish. Overall: Very pleasant and highly persistent. The beer evolves while warming, gaining in depth for some of the flavors.

pours unclear dark brown, red tint, with a small light beige cap showing minimal retention and lacing. roasted malts and some of their acidity, red fruitiness - chocolate-covered cherries, burnt nuts, coffee berries, light resin and smoke, minerals and a hint of metal, sweet - molasses. light carbonation, light to medium body - oily and just a bit sticky, semi-sweet grassy-resinous-smoky finish. lightly sweet and lightly smoked roasted but never robust porter. interesting.

My Bottom Line:
Toasted malts and their caramel coulis move into fruitiness and mild earthy bitterness.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A ring of foam circles the brown-edged black.
-The low bubbling makes the mouthfeel appear sweeter than it actually is.
-The toastiness is prevalent and remisnicent of brown malt. Although it might simply be a mix of smoked and roasted malts.
-Fruity acidity is enjoyable.

Bottle.

Bottle (500 ml). Shared by Fux, thanks! Dark brown with a small bubbly brown head and little lacing. Aroma is of cocoa, hints of smoke, light fruitiness and roasted malt. Taste is slightly sweet with cocoa powder, hints of smoke, very light acidity and roasted malt. Light body. A tad watery. Medium carbonation. Lingering cocoa finish. Decent Porter at best. Weak.

Bottle at Tom’s. Deep brown - black pour with thin off white head. Aroma is roasty, lots of leather, cocoa. Taste is roasty, sour roasted malt flavor, powdery cocoa. Palate is light, slightly watery, light carbonation. Ok.
