La Swordfish est une brune hybride aux céréales d’une bière anglaise et à la levure belge, ce qui lui donne un goût à la fois malté et léger. Les goûts de caramel et de chocolat sont prédominants, alors qu’une touche d’épices reste en bouche.

On tap. Nothing to add. Good beer. Would drink again. Lighter and easier drinkability than I expected. Malt. Refreshing.

How: Sample at Festival Brassicole de la Mauricie.

>>> A flavorful but a bit heavy Amber Ale with spicy Belgian yeast. Odd, but not bad at all.

+ A large beige head with good retention tops a slightly hazy brown beer
+ The combination of the Belgian yeast with earthy/mineral notes, roasted malts, chocolate and toffee is a bit odd for a rather low abv dark Belgian Ale but it works well for me
+ There’s a fun mild lingering spiciness in the aftertaste
It certainly feel a bit heavy for a less than 7% abv Belgian Ale
It’s fun to try once, but it doesn’t have a profile that would make me think about buying it again

Flavors: Spicy Belgian yest, roasted malts, toffee, earthy/mineral notes, chocolate

Sample from a bottle. Dark pour with creamy tan foam. Aroma of dark chocolate, very powdery, cocoa, light coffee, light peppery notes, light fruit but definitely not much Belgian going on. Taste is roasty, chocolate, light pear, just a touch of something doughy, slightly strange flavor. Palate is med-full bodied with good carbonation. Not your average Belgian ale, but drinkable.

Bottle. Pours hazy brown with particles in suspension and one finger of moka coloured head. Aroma of roasted malts, spices, caramel. Taste is more of the same; along with tofee as well as a nice balance between the sweetness of the belgian yeast and a an agreable bitterness.

500ml bottle served in a snifter around 10 degrees: This is the first beer produced by the brewery Le Naufrageur I come upon and I have to give credit for the artwork I find very nice. Dense brown pour with a certain opcacity topped by two fingers of hazel foam. The nose is roasted, sweet and appealing. The taste is very interesting pairing a nice blend of roasted malts and dark chocolate. A good contribution of the hops pushes up the flavours to a higher intensity. It finishes long, sweet and hoppy and the mouthfeel is dense and a bit oily. Pretty good product overall and a very satisfying brew you could pair with strong cheeses and grilled meats.

Bottle. Pours hazy brown in color with a tan head. There’s some sweet malty notes, brown sugar and notes of dark fruits in aroma. Throw in some notes of garden earthyness and you’re nearly there. Dark fruits in taste too, bit of some spicyness mixed with bready malty notes later on. Green herbs and bit of sweetness in the end. Okay, this brew was a bit different one somehow.

Biere brune de bonne qualité avec bonne teneur en alcool. New Castle plus forte et surtout avec du gaz un peu.

from Mondial de la Bière 2013, Mulhouse - dark brown beer with a rubish hue under a solid creamy beige foam; nice lacework; biscuity maltiness with hints of nuts and marzipan, toasted; full-bodied, quite thick, some malt sweetness and a decent earthy bitterness; ; light dry and long malty hazelnutty finish with gentle unwanted vegetables notes and cacao as well
