Commercial Description:
In Greece, its country of origin, cider mead is considered the "divine beverage of elves." Our Nectar du Terroir Basque made from traditional Breton apples originates from the beehives and orchards of the Basque region. This dry mead is served chilled, as an aperitif or to complement entrées- poultry, fish and seafood. Récolté, produit et embouteillé à la propriété. Estate harvested, produced and bottled.

(Rating #1431)

375 ml naturally-corked bottle from Marché des Saveurs in Montreal, QC (August 2006) served out of the fridge in a White Winter Winery glass. Very very pale, as pale and color-free (just a hint of yellow) as its label brethren, oily and with really quite minimal legs....much more honey in the nose than Les Filles du Soleil, earthy drying/decaying apples and hints of vanilla, a restrained sweetness, lovely....dry, even bitter apples and faint honey combine for a complex, farmy, sour-tart feeling on the tongue, lightly medicinal and alcoholic, very mineralic and husky at the finish, with a nice warmth and a bit of bite to end things; dried/burnt woods also in evidence. A nice aperetif, complex and fascinating, but for me a bit hard to drink. As with Filles du Soleil, I am quite happy to recork and finish it up later, an entire bottle would be impossible.
