On tap at the brewery. Ashy malts.. Cocoa and burnt wood. Crisp hops poking through... Bitters the finish but mostly malty and burnt.

In short: An chocolaty and moderately hoppy (resinous, floral) big black beer. Surprisingly easy to drink. Nice.
How: Tap at Soirée Des Brasseurs 2011, Shawinigan QC
The look: Near black body topped by a small beige head
In long: Nose is resinous and floral hops over a chocolate cake. Taste is chocolate fudge, low-medium roasted level, some dates, cookies, and a whole lot of floral and resinous hops. Bitterness level was medium. Alcohol very well hidden. Quite easy to drink for a 9%+ Black IPA. A pleasant surprise, Saint-Bock new brewer is showing promising signs. Black Jesus… The story would have been quite different if Jesus had indeed been black, the disciples would have be called a gang, Jesus would have turned water into 40oz twist-cap malt-liquor bottles, and Mary… to put it politely… NOT virgin.

Lubiere (7002) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - SEP 19, 2011
A deep dark black IPA with a thick receding lacing and creamy brown head. In aroma, light chocolate malt with floral, nutty and roasted. In mouth, a smooth chocolate malt with roasted coffee, floral hops hiding behind, quite nice as a porter, but not enough hops for a black IPA. On tap at brewpub, Sept. 3 2011.

Drank at Bières & Saveurs de Chambly 2011, on September 4. Black, medium head. Aroma of chocolate malt, with a good dosse of hops, but not very strong. Chocolate flavor hops, notes of smoked herbs, bitter herbs dry. Maybe not the best in style, but it drinks well!

Double black IPA. Bitter enough for an IPA but with some coffee flavour that gives it the complexity of a good strong beer. Satisfies both the hophead in me and the lover of strong complex imperial beers.
