ARH (971) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - OCT 28, 2015
On tap, poured into a snifter. The aroma is peaty and earthy with a strong bourbon caramel sweetness. It appearamce is a rich, oily, woody brown with a tan, dense soap head that had moderate retention and a dense, droopy lace. The taste is highly sweet with just a light bitter back note. The texture is that of a thin syrup accompanied by a light, but dense foam carbonation. The full body has an earthiness to it, but is primarily caramel with a toasty / smokey note. The finish is nutty leading to an aftertaste that keeps the nuts, but adds a smokey, and slightly ashy note with sticky maple.

A cognac amber ale with a thin light mocha head. In aroma, sweet fruity caramel malt with light treacle, alcohol warmth, herbaceous hops, nice. In mouth, a sweet fruity caramel malt with light peated notes, grassy hops, nice and pleasant, like a scotch. On tap at brewery.

brokensail (14038) - San Leandro, California, USA - MAR 3, 2015
On tap @ Le Saint Bock. Brownish/amber pour with a khaki head. The smell is intensely sugary and sweet. A lot of fruity jam, some chocolate, and plenty of caramel. A touch of booze and maybe some green apple? Definitely some harsh solvent, booze, and green apple on the tongue. Kind of rough. A lot of goopy caramel sweetness to go with it. Not my cup of tea.

Pours a deep golden almost maple color with no visible head. The nose is sweet caramel, raisin, date and honey. Palate is a bit sticky with no detectable carbonation.
