500ml bottle. Dark brown with a foamy tan head. Flavors are dark chocolate, coffee, roasted cereals, spices, alcohol and charred wood with fruity notes. Medium to full body, good carbonation, smooth texture.

500mL bottle, sent from yourilevesque (thanks a lot, Youri), pours black with a medium tan head. Aroma brings out rich roasted malt, some light bourbon notes, and dry powdery cocoa. Flavour is very highly roasted, with loads of roasted malt upfront, accentuated beautifully by the bourbon barrels, and a touch of bitter dry cocoa powder. Very nicely constructed, though perhaps rather bitter on the finish.

Bottle. Licorice and dark fruit and molasses aroma. Rich intense flavour of coffee, chocolate, and dark fruit. Nice impy.

Pour is periwinkle blue with an aviator cap. Chocolate, dark cherries, toast, light oak, coffee, dark caramel. Nose is nice but timid. Taste is sweet, surprisingly spicy. Bourbon barrel comes through but in a weird, hot sort of way. Combined with the spice it makes this weirdly sharp and intense. Creamt, but it’s also a touch thin for my liking. Decent, but not worth the $9 I paid for a pint bottle.

2015-07-19 Belle couleur noire, mousse brune consistante.

500ml Bottle from new release, June 2015. Opaque black pour with rich creamy brown foam. Aroma is quite chocolaty, lots of cocoa, hoppy and roasty notes, light coffee, some boozy fruit notes, almost brandy like. Taste is bitter, mainly roasty, nice sweetness but with a light roasted malt acidity, not unpleasant but not as solid as the aroma. Palate is good, nice med-full body with good carbonation, good attenuation. Tasty imperial stout.

500ml bottle from Peluso. Aroma: cocoa, roasted malt, bourbon. App: pitch dark, medium brown cocoa head with little retention. Taste and palate:medium to full body, creamy, smooth, average carbonation, lots of chocolate and coffee in mouth, light sweetness, light dry bitter and alcohol finish. Overall: pretty smooth imperial stout. Quite strong but not too hard to drink. Well balanced. Not too sweet, not too bitter and not too much alcohol warming though I would have liked bit more of this alcohol warming feel.
