COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

A hazed dark brown amber ale with a thick frothy lacing mocha head. In aroma, sweet caramel malt with light fruity notes, plums, alcohol warmth, candy sugar, nice. In mouth, a nice sweet caramel malt with fruity notes, light roasted coffee, dark fruits, molasses, candy sugar, nice, but nothing special.

Bonne bière brune de style belge. Satisfait mais sans plus. Un goût pas des plus recherché.

Aroma of malt, dark brown colour, with an off white short lasting well laced head. Better taste than aroma, taste of malt, with undertones of hops. Watery feel with a bitter malt finish.

Maybe I’m biased because I didn’t expect too much from this beer, but it turned out to be a pleasant surprise. There’s not a huge amount going on, but this is quite drinkable. Honey, caramel and spice on the nose. Taste is the same but with a surprising dryness for a dubbel. It’s definitely not a dry beer per se, but the little bit of hop undertone makes this go down nice, even on a warmish summer night.

Depanneur Peluso, Montreal 50cl ($5): Pours mostly clear brown with a beige head. Aroma is dark fruit, sugar, and a healthy dosing of yeast. Taste is not very complex or large. Fortunately this is no too sweet. Strange slightly sour taste in there. I think the aroma is fine, but the taste could have used some work.
