A dark brown ale with a thin brown head. In aroma, sweet fruity caramel malt with light licorice notes, molasses, dark fruits and alcohol warmth, OK. In mouth, a sweet fruity caramel malt with dark fruits, light off notes, faint grassy hops, light licorice, alcohol warmth, OK but a bit off. On tap at L’isle de Garde.

500ml, 8.7% version. Aroma: caramel, dark red fruits, licorice and a tad of vanilla. App: hazy dark brown, average moka head, nice lacing. Taste and palate: full body, creamy, average to high carbonation, really smooth, medium sweetness, light bitter and alcohol warming finish. Overall: not the first time I’ve had this beer but for some reason I prefer it so much more this time. Maybe the temperature of the beer or the time of the day. Anyway, really enjoyed it. Smooth, not too sweet, pretty good even for a non Scotch ale fan like me but for $5.99 that?s a steal.

[Bottle (500ml)] Pours a very dark impenetrable reddish-brown with an average size semi-lasting frothy beige head. Slightly mild but nice aroma of caramel malt, dark fruit, dates, toffee and hints of nuts and chocolate. Flavour follows the aroma but is a tad watery, still nice though. Alcohol is well hidden. Average bodied. Very good stuff.

Pours a deep brown colour with red highlights, a warm beige head, good retention and creamy lacing. Aromas of fruit cake with the fruits and nuts. Caramel as well. The alcohol just slightly warms up. Flavours of roasted malts, sugars with some notes of anise and loads of dark fruits. Bottled "10 MAI 2013", so over a year ago and still quite good. Goes down too well !
