gusher. again with this brewery. pours very dark brown with a beige frothy head, good retention and lacing. burnt malts, fruitiness, some dark chocolate and bitter coffee, metallic. average carbonation, medium body - oily and sweet (some lactose), hint of acidity. linear, burnt and unbalanced. drain pour.

500 ml bottle from Broue Ha Ha, served cool in a tulip glass.

App.: Deep brown-black with a nice mocha foam. Aroma: Some nice, friendly chocolate, coffee and vanilla notes, some solvent (I think), slightly ashen and alcoholic, somewhat fruity (grapey), a little evergreen??, fairly sweet, rich and inviting. Palate: Medium-full body, full, fine, elegant effervescence. Flav.: There is a nice dose of chocolate, light black coffee, faint vanilla, with sort of an overriding...solvent note?, a touch ashen, a little fruity, maybe the solvent is more alcohol?, generally nice with some odd and hard-to-describe characteristics; dry with pretty good bitterness and a fairly long, solventy/alcoholic finish with some roasted malt character.

Not entirely successful, but it is still fairly drinkable.

Bottle - 500ml. Pours an opaque black body with a thin beige frothy head. Good malty/hoppy aroma with roasted cereals and chocolate hints. Its robust taste carries coffeeish, brown sugar, and roasted cereals notes. Ends with a decent bitter/roasty finish. Enjoyable Stout.

Nice coffee and black chocolate aroma with a touch of vanilla, caramel and sugar cane, reminding me brownies or fudge. What an exceptional nose. Constant with this brewery. Appearance: Pitch black and opaque. Head is half creamy and half rocky, sticking to glass and leaving a nice lacing. Taste: Attack is smooth and mellow with accents of coffee, chocolate and fudge coming back accompanied by notes of vanilla and caramel. Roasted and hops bitternesses are completing each other marvelously. Balance is perfect. Palate is mellow and round with a long lasting bitter finish. One of the best stout that I’ve tasted up to date.

UPDATED: JUN 10, 2013 2013-05-31. Murky brown body with a nice tan head. 3+ Aroma of typical brown ale malt profile is quickly eclipsed by leafy green hops. Flavour is muddled, with a fair amount of bitterness. Nice malty core. Lingering green hops and bitterness long into the finish. 7++ Average plus to medium bodied palate, nice carbonation. 3+ Pretty decent, it is not very balanced but enjoyable overall. 7/3/7/3/14-15 - 3.5Bottle at Mondial de la Biere 2013, Montreal

2012-10-05. Black body with a massive tan head and lace after it gushered out of the bottle. 3+ Dry yeasty roasty malt aroma. 6+ Flavour is similar, very dry roasty bitterness, lightly metallic undertones. 6+ Average palate is quite effervescent. 3+ Decent, the carbonation could be indication of infection but it is not unpleasant as it is, but just okay. 6/3/6/3/13 - 3.1 Bottle shared by DuctTape

UPDATED: FEB 10, 2013 Bouteille 500 ml. 5.8%.

500ml from Duchesse d’aiguillon.
Appearance : Black with medium foamy and creamy brown head. Nice head.
Aroma : Phenolic with roasted malt, hops and light chocolate.
Taste : Chocolate with roasted malt and light coffee. Finish coffee and resinous hops. Light phenolic notes. Rather astringent finish. Creamy finish.
Overall : Good but still not top quality. I don’t really like the phenolic notes. Finish also seems a bit too astringent for the amount of malt sweetness. Still a very decent brew.
