3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 MartinT (6934) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - JUL 11, 2009
UPDATED: AUG 4, 2012 My Bottom Line:
Frank roasted cereals and underlying caramel sweetness team up with blueberry skin esters and wooden hop resins to build this well-fed and überdrinkable Stout.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam covers the browned blackness.
-The roasted malts offer both bitterness and crunchy cereal flavors.
-As with all Trèfle Noir beers, the body is well rounded and the carbonation relaxed enough to let us appreciate all the flavors thoroughly.
-Hops are more expressive than average, expressing resins which are harmonious with the grain bill.
-A coffee cream touch seems to coat the flavor profile’s dominant aspects.

2012-10-05. Black body with a massive tan head and lace after it gushered out of the bottle. 3+ Dry yeasty roasty malt aroma. 6+ Flavour is similar, very dry roasty bitterness, lightly metallic undertones. 6+ Average palate is quite effervescent. 3+ Decent, the carbonation could be indication of infection but it is not unpleasant as it is, but just okay. 3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Rastacouere (6044) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - AUG 7, 2012
A dense tan tower of foam settles above the blackness. Charred grains dominate the aroma in which mellow coffee, burnt bread and soft dark and red fruit notes make agreeable appearances. Smooth mouth entrance, its carbonation is flowing, very soft and amplifying the round texture. Very pleasant mouthfeel, round yet not heavy and sweet, but never syrupy and balanced by a hefty roastiness that dries the palate out. At the same time, the hops feel strikingly fresh for a stout, leaving a tea-like, herbal and resinous impression in the finish, but never being anywhere near abusive., the bitterness being apparently evenly shared by the malts and hops. Excellent balanced, once again by Trèfle Noir. Impressive, the drinkability of a 4.5% stout, but the body of a small impy.

Bottle: Poured a deep black color ale with a generous light brown head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of black chocolate with some coffee notes is quite good. Taste is also dominated by some nice black chocolate notes with light floral coffee notes with a semi-sweet finish. Body is about average with some creamy texture and good carbonation. Not bad for the style.

Bouteille 500ml.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 rodenbach99 (2510) - Longueuil, Quebec, CANADA - OCT 25, 2012
