Tap. Great beer. Aromas of coffee, and caramel. Taste is sweet, with bitter notes. Palate is velvety, with a medium-to-full body. Dark brown, with a frothy white head.

Des notes de petits fruits sombres, mélasse, érable, vanille, coco et une certaine résine de houblons qui colle aux sucres. Superbe.

UPDATED: JAN 11, 2008 Sampled on tap at Vices et versa. Pours a deep black color with a light brown head. Very seductive aroma of black licorice, chocolate and roasted malt. Superb, balanced flavor of chocolate, black licorice and roasted malt with a mild bitter finish. The body is light and liquorous while the carbonation is gentle. It’s a very pleasant and dangerously easy to drink baltic porter.

4oz sample @ Churchkey, DC. dark brown, mocha head outstanding fruit aroma, lots of caramel malts, licorice-toffee? flavors, getting a load of dark fruits along with a mild presence of licorice, possible anise, whatever it is, the mouthfeel is unique and flavorful. finish is dry, hinting at some herbal elements with notes of coffee.

(Rating #1294)

UPDATED: MAY 13, 2010 My Bottom Line:
Wealthy raisins and dark chocolate establish themselves atop the roasted maltiness, while molasses add a dash of sweetness to this plump and reverend Baltic Porter.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam tops the blackness with brown edges.
-This has world-class potential written all over it.
-The nose is a beautiful prelude to what is to come in the flavor profile.
-The finish has a touch of nascent vinosity, but it’s barely there for now.
-All malt flavors are united for the greater good, and continue into the finish. They work perfectly with the restaurant’s "côtes levées du diable".
-The lovable, round body is one of its finest features.
-Carbonation is prickly, making the round body feel lighter.
-Roasted malts and leafy hops offer plenty of bitterness in the finish. This is now balanced, like most TDDs.
-Like most of their beers, this one is of the same intensity from nose to flavor profile to finish.

On tap at the brewpub.

Dark as night, it first had a perfectly pearly white head that was an amazing contrast in color. I had to ruin it all by swirling my glass around, which promptly turned the head into mocha.
Cocoa powder and freshly ground coffee, it smelled like inside those high-end coffee shops/dessert cafés.
Plenty of dark fruits (blackberries) gives it a good sweetness and licorice - not enough for me not to like it, I’m usually not a big fan but it worked. Moderate body and flavor tends to be more chocolate than coffee, which suits me just fine. Perfect amount of alcohol warms your throat without burning it. Another winner from a great brewpub.
