UPDATED: JAN 5, 2016 Aroma is an earthiness, funkiness, sour grapes, wild yeasts and clove. Taste is pale sweet malts, with a sourness that seems potent by aroma but is actually quite smooth and pleasant. Clove, grass, lemon, banana, and sour grapes. Appearance is a hazy gold /orange with a thin pearl head that retains quite well.

Bottled February 2014. This is a dark golden brown with a 3 finger lacy head. Honestly, the cap popped off really fast indicating it probably could be a gusher. Aroma has a lot of kiwi, pineapple, some turmeric and mango. Great funky aroma with some grape skins and oak. Love the taste of this. Very dry, so freaking funky. really excellent. Lots of fruit, wine barrel, oak, tannins, tropical overall. this is fantastic.

(Bottle, Stockholm Beer Festival, 27 Sep 2014) Golden colour with frothy, white head. Fruity, spicy nose with citrus, passion-fruit, hay and spices. Fruity, spicy taste with notes of tropical fruit, citrus, a touch of brett and a generous spicy bitterness in the finish. More than medium body, quite dry. Spicy yeast character, fairly gentle sourness. Quite complex and very tasty. Excellent beer!

UPDATED: JAN 1, 2015 66cl bomber procured at Mondial de la Bière 2014, shared at oldmanriver’s potluck post-Nikolaus tasting 12/2014. The muddled New World composition of fresh vanilla wood and noble rot Sauvignon mushroom in aroma all but join in taste to create a hoppy, fresher Vlaams Bruin as a Canadian Blanche, infusing white grape, lemon rind, almond malts and dank balsamico into oak. Best of both new & old Worlds one-off.

shared by bartlebier - thanks a lot! - and with Bierle and Oldmanriver. Aromas of vinegar, oak, even some trace of eukalyptus. Complex and wonderful taste with notes of raspberries, vineyard peaches and candied pineapples on a brett-basis with hints of honey and Gletschereis-candies. Unexpected bitter finish. A surprise bag of a beer and very well done.

750ml bottle from Broue Ha Ha in Gatineau, Quebec. Orange-gold in colour with a thin white head, light lace. Aroma is of citrus, white wine, honey, some fruit. Flavour has some funk, citrus, grapes, wood. Finishes long, some sweetness, funk, wood. Very good, high drinkability.

Pours gold into a tulip. White head with little retention recedes to hug rim. Oak, dark grape and marshmallow aromas. Soft with sweet marshmallow upfront turning to dark pit fruit and bitter earth in the lasting finish.

Au nez, une forte odeur boisée avec un bon côté sour. En bouche, c'est astringent, sure et très boisée. La finale empreigne la bouche longuement de saveurs sûres et boisées. Exceptionnel! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Thanks to fellow RateBeerian sgdougan for splitting this beaut with me. I haven’t been privy to partaking in all that many Sours but compared to the few I have had, this is remarkably accessible. In no manner do I mean to say it is subdued or boring, but instead that the flavours are blended so well that there isn’t the sour shock experienced from others of the style. This she-bitch pours a pretty hazy straw with a thin and fizzy white head. All sorts of smells and flavours are present here; vanilla, white white, peaches, cat piss, black pepper, grass, wheat, lemon and a woody dankness. T’is a very complex beer with a mildly prickly carbonation and a mid-light body. Not nearly as menacing as the label art would have you believe, this is one sexy brew that deserves some contemplative sniff n’ sip and a two-day period of flavour rumination.

(750ml bottle from Dépanneur Peluso, ~9 months old I think) Pours a pretty lightly hazed medium gold with orange hints and a moderate, tight white head that fades to a ring with lace. Aroma a great blend of funky, sour/tart, sweet, woody. Nose of apricot and peach, mostly candied, a bit tropical (part barrel and part hops?), floral honey dessert wine sweetness, lots of oak, Bretty aged (blue?) cheese funk aplenty. Palate has a nice honey sweet dessert wine-ish malt core that gives structure. A puckering tartness of fresh apricot and yellow plum with skin, light acidity, sweet mango/peach too. Quite a reasonable amount of wood from the middle on. Musty Brett as it dries into the finish. Tick of honey and fruit on the roof of the mouth. Fairly light hop bitterness and a little booze in the aftertaste. Medium full and kind of slick, fairly light carb. Not really a sour but wild and funky with dessert wine flavours imparted from a wine also fermented with something wild and funky. Cool! The stone fruit pairs well with new world hop flavours. Awesome digestif sort of wild ale.
