beerbuzzmontreal (2769), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Sep 7, 2006 The pour reveals a clear golden amber color with a thin white head. Good aroma of citrusy hops and biscuity malt. Good flavor of crisp, citrusy hops and biscuity malt with a mild bitter finish. The body is medium with a creamy texture and lively carbonation. Another very enjoyable beer from le Trou du Diable. Miguel (1181), Sorel-Tracy, Quebec, Canada May 14, 2006 Robe blonde voilée surmontée d’une mousse blanche mince. Arômes de diacétyle et de houblon herbacé. Saveurs de citron, de malt caramélisé, d’herbes et de houblon amérisant. tiggmtl (4178), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada May 9, 2006 Strong hop forward aroma offers notes of citrus, herbal, floral, earthy hops with mild grainy malt character. Clear, deep golden tan coloured body is topped by a decent, off white, fine bubbled head that recedes to partial cover with some nice lacing. Citrus and floral hop flavours are notable with supporting malt body that is lightly grainy and moderate bitterness. Medium body with moderate carbonation. The nose is still beautiful, but this time around the flavor follows up. It seems like all Trou du Diable are improving with every batch! 3.6/5

First try:
Any first impressions?
-A ring of head surrounds the honeyed gold clarity.
-Farmy, earthy, and herbal hoppiness produces the most complex and enjoyable nose of all beers tasted that day.
-Aroma promised a little too much I guess, and the flavor spectrum cannot reach that widely, as it tastes like a watered-down American Pale Ale.
-Eminently drinkable, with a carbonation which was a little more active than other beers tried that day.

What if you dig deeper?
-Hop bitterness and flavor is really lacking, considering the fact that the aroma suggested their complex, thorough presence.
-Malt didn’t produce much developing sweetness, only there to support and give a little body.
-In the end, I could have smelled this one without ever touching it, but if the flavor were able to follow up, I would be choosing this one to spend my evenings here.
On tap at the brewpub. 3.4/5 Goldorak (427), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Apr 9, 2006 Light amber going towards orange, the thick honeycomb head gave way rather quickly and died off almost as if it were cask-conditioned.
Hop nose was flowery and honey sweet, but then I got coffee grinds...again? Thrid Beer in a row from this place that gave me coffee in the nose (although one was a stout, which is expected, but a bitter and now an ESB?) I had my girlfriend doublecheck for me in case it was just me who was java crazy, and she confirmed, adding it tasted a bit smokey as well, sort of a cured meat character witch I picked after the glass warmed up a bit.
Lively carbonation, finally a little malt shines through, with a decent amount of hops that stick to back of the pallet and was spicy and herbal. The brewer told me it was mostly Mnt. Hood hops bit with a little of this and that. Not bad overall, it would really pop on cask.
