COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

2006 vintage - 9.5% ABV, subsequent batches 7.5% ABV.

Pours a hazy brown with a small (and weak) head that leaves close to lacing. Aroma of banana bread and spices. Taste is fruity, full of banana esters. Mouth feel is silky, body medium. Carbonation is medium. Good beer.

600ml bottle pours a deep amber color with a 2 finger light beige head that leaves some spotted lacing on the glass. Aroma is predominantly cinnamon with perhaps some allspice and cardamom. Taste is cinnamon with some caramel and dark fruit (maybe cherries) sweetness and a grassy hop bitterness. Light to medium bodied with generous carbonation. A pretty good Christmas ale.

Pour out of 500 mL bottle, dark reddish copper pour with off white head, aroma brought notes of dark fruit, cinnamon, clove, some ginger into some dark fruit, red cherry, some nice caramel, dark caramelized sugars, touch of yeasty spice. Taste is a mix of sweet caramel, toffee, right into cinnamon, clove, allspice, touch of dark fruit with plum, candied raisin, some nice cherry notes into some slight apple but not tart, hints of nuts, some spice, finishing sweet. Delicious.

Pours brown with thick, dense, very bubbly head. Aroma of butterscotch, honey, cherries, leather and alcohol. Tastes of the same. Oily mouthfeel with lingering aftertaste. Really nice.

600ml bottle from Broue Ha Ha in Gatineau, Quebec. Dark amber in colour with a thin off-white head, light lacing. The aroma has lots of spice, bread, dark fruits, some caramel. The flavour is lightly spiced, some bread and caramel, yeasty. Filling with moderate carbonation. Finishes very light alcohol warmth, more spice.

Bottle from Legacy Liquor, Vancouver
Pours a beautiful clean dark amber color with generous compact head; slowly gushing, probably the first time it hallens with a Le Trou Diable beer. Aroma of bread, maybe some rye bread, caramel, very light spices (stollen). Soft mouthfeel, lean; some malt and caramel flavor; the light spicy profile tends to provide some soapy feeling, very light star anise; relatively low bitterness. Traces of yeast and esters.
Not impressed by this one, the base beer doesn’t have notable qualities and the spices don’t make things better.

Pours a amber caramel color with big fizzy eggshell foam. Lots of spice in this beer as expected... nutmeg, cinnamon, pepper, anise. The body is light and mouthfeel somewhat sticky. Nice toasted malt backbone but the caramel sweetness and heavy spice just don’t come together as nicely as I was hoping for . Would have liked to see a bit more body to the base.

Enjoyed at Brothers Beer Bistro. Pours a nice hazy orange-red colour with a beige head that goes down quickly, but a ring stays around. Fruity nose with a good mix of dark and light fruits, spices and yeast. Wet mouthfeel with a little stickiness. Fruity malt taste with Belgian Ale yeast and very mild spices. Notes of oranges come out in the smell and taste as it warms up. Wish the spices were a little stronger, but still a nice Christmas beer that is different from others of this style.
